Nacho Scocco, has been linked with a move to Greece, with Olympiakos interested in the Argentine forward. Scocco, who spent three years in Greece with AEK Athens, endured an underwhelming four months at the Stadium of Light after arriving in a £4m move from Brazilian outfit Internacional in January. But the Gazette understands that Scocco has no interest in a move to Olympiakos and wants to fight for his place on Wearside. There has also been interest from Argentine pair Boca Juniors and Newellâs Old Boys in Scocco, despite the 29-year-oldâs recent arrival in the Premier League from South America. Poyet is keen to see how Scocco responds to a full pre-season though after arriving at Sunderland in the middle of the Brazilian close season. But Poyet accepts Scocco was way below par following his arrival, after the head coach had originally envisaged that the 29-year-old would add extra quality to Sunderlandâs survival challenge.
Your last line in bold says it all. Thought he showed some decent touches in the Southampton cup game but needs game time. Can we afford to give him it?
i recon this lad will come good Gil, and the best bit he wants to play for the club, thats what we need not journeymen
Hopefully our pre-season consists of some proper teams, not Scottish League 2 ones (although Arbroath would be good, that's my Scottish team ). Go for a tour of Italy/France/Germany - preferably Germany - and play some of the top teams. I just hope fitness is a key point, hate seeing the team lethargic and slow out the blocks at the start of the season... MoN's years were bad for this.
its far too early to send this lad on his way. he came in when his pre season was about to start. get him doing extra training and get him raring to go for the kick off of the new season
Poyet doesn't need to see how does in pre season, what he said is he'll be better for a preseason. I trust Gus over the press all day long and certain Scocco will be one of our strikers next season
"Scocco, who spent three years in Greece with AEK Athens, endured an underwhelming four months at the Stadium of Light after arriving in a £4m move from Brazilian outfit Internacional in January." Mainly due to arriving unfit at a crisis club ad not actually playing
Bless him. Not fit enough when he came. Could he only train an hour a day (mam's note?} Ruffty-tuffty football does take it's toll, poor bairns all of them. It's hard kicking a ball and running around. Must be hell taking 4 months to get over jet-lag. x
Only real glimpse where he's shown what he can do was for Wickhams first goal against City. Lovely little reverse ball to Giacherrini. With a good preseason who knows what he could be like.
If he can get fit and find a bit of form hes a ready made replacement for Borini who I cant see coming back. If we got a bid of what we payed though I imagine we might sell.
