On Saturday we have the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes over 10f at the Curragh, for fillies and Mares. Midday 5/6 Snow Fairy 9/4 Misty For Me 11/2 16/1 bar I think it's fair to say that Midday is the best fillie in Britain and Ireland and by quite some way, Snow Fairy is pretty useful also, but she was well and truly put in her place by Midday in last years Yorkshire Oaks, and I see no reason why that form should be reversed. Snow Fairy has since been globe trotting and has picked up some G1 wins abroad, but these races in Japan are tin pot events, they may be worth a few quid, but the standard of competition over there is dire. Dunlop did the same with Ouija Board, they knew she wasn't good enough to win the big races over here, so she got an overrated reputation winning the same sort of races abroad. Midday definately has the superior form, and she has already proven her superiority over Snow Fairy, so I see no reason to oppose the jolly here. Misty For Me just isn't up to this class and I'd be amazed if she got anywere near the first 2. I fancy you might get evens Saturday morning, so I'm going to wait, but a monster bet on Midday looks on the cards
I have to agree Shergar. Midday has looked better than ever so far this season and she really put Snow Fairy in her place in last season's Yorkshire Oaks. I think she will take all the beating and i would think that a 'monster' bet would be in order provided that the ground is decent.
Hi shergs, I have to agree with both you and zenyatta the only thing that worries me is that she has only raced once in ireland once I know two years ago. She is a very good horse and was only beaten by St Nic @ Epsom by a length when it looked like she was going to win, but St Nic just show his true class! The Ground wouldnt worry me she has won on soft ground before @ Goodwood as long as it doesnt pour down and make it on the heavy side, She beat Snow Fairy very comfortably earlier in the year & I cant really see her getting beat! And even money will be like making money!
Describing the racing in Japan as 'tin pot' - nothing like a bit of parochialism huh. As for Ouija Board (another one that doesn't pass the Shergar test because she actually lost races), she won three times outside of Europe (two of those at the Breeder's Cup) and seven times in Europe, so your sneering at her doesn't even reflect the facts. That said, I agree that Midday is the class act here.
I've just had a look on oddschecker, and William Hill are already offering Evens, I'm going to pop in there tommorow morning, and if it's NRNB il have my wedge on there and then, I just can't work out what formbook Will Hills odds compiler is reading, she should be 1/2 at best
Ron.....How am I sneering at Ouija Board, I'm just pointing out that horses can get overrated for winning these G1s in Japan and America, as they are not up to our standard. If you ignore Snow Fairys runs in Japan, she would be 7/2 at best up against Midday. Ouija Board was the same she went globe trotting and came back with a big reputation, and was sent off at stupidly cramped odds for races such as the Arc and Coronation Cup, but she was not good enough, as her form abroad wasn't strong, this is the same with Snow Fairy, she's beat some run of the mill G1 colts in Japan, and she's boosted her reputation with most people, but il just take her on the form she has shown on these shores, and that's along way below what will be needed to turn over Midday! On your point about Ouija Boatd losing a few races, she actually lost more times than she won, though she did take in some tough races, she was the best fillie of her generation, but came up short against the best colts
No I don't WF. I stopped betting long ago. Any money was always earmarked for something of higher priority and still is and I wouldn't bet with money I couldn't afford to lose. I did plan to set £10k aside for a betting bank when I retired but when you own horses .........................
yep I know exactly I have two and they cost enough! lol £120 for both of them every 6 weeks for new shoes, is just one of the many expeneses! lol I only bet what I can afford to loose a couple of quid here and there
Has anybody actually said that Snow Fairy is definitely running in the Pretty Polly Stakes? She also holds an entry in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on Sunday in which there are currently nine declared, the best of whom are Sarafina and Redwood. If it is bucketing with rain in Ireland and not doing so in the South West Paris suburbs, Ed Dunlop’s filly may be crossing La Manche not the Irish Sea. If Snow Fairy defects, Midday will be long odds on as she is probably the best of her sex over middle distances and the three-year-old fillies do not look a great crop.
Just seen the Sporting Life site and the declared runners so far are: (Paddy Power) 4-5 Midday, 5-2 Snow Fairy, 6-1 Misty For Me, 20-1 Chrysanthemum, 20-1 Claoimh Solais, 25-1 Aoife Alainn, 33-1 Empowering, 50-1 Obama Rule.
Flyingbolt, I have just checked on France Galop and Snow Fairy has been scratched from the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud so it will be The Curragh or nothing for her. Only five have stood their ground in Paris with Sarafina looking a long odds-on favourite against Cirrus Des Aigles, Indian Days, Silver Pond and Zack Hall. Workforce has not been added so it will be the Eclipse or the King George for him.
I will be totally unoriginal and stick with what I said in another thread – Workforce will go to the Eclipse Stakes provided that the ground is not fast; otherwise he will wait for the King George (as Saint-Cloud is now not an option).
Dunlop has just confirmed that Snow Fairy is an intended runner, and he is already making excuses incase she gets beat, bringing up her lack of a run for 7 months, despite the fact she won well on seasonal debut last season. I think they may have gone to France had it been an easier race, but with Sarafina running, there is no easy race to go for. It apears Midday is all the rage with the big hitters, Im glad i snapped up the Evens, the best available is 4/5
I certainly didn't see that coming, that AOB realy winds me up, his horses are so inconsistant, it's pointless reading the form with his runners. Misty For Me did look impressive though, the Nassau and Yorkshire Oaks next
