If you want to then clean up or edit the sound I can recommend downloading the free version of Goldwave from the net. Used this on live recordings of my band and just by equalizing the sound everything became so much clearer and these were recorded using the condenser mic on a cassette player. A great piece of software.
I still play tapes and records from the 1970's !, the 'now' tapes/cassettes are fantastic brings back memories such as queen "I want to break free" etc.
