Hughes has signed bardsley, assaiidi, looks like we will get him after the clubs have agreed a fee and diouf looks almost certain. Hes also signed an Australian who is highly thought of and looks like we might sign a player from Monaco, well done Mark Hughes for getting stuck in so early in the window.

Seems TP was always after the cut price last minute.com deals. Nice to see that players are willing to come to little old Stoke now though.

I wonder whether TP will adopt an 'eleventh hour' policy at Palace? We could let him have Palacios at 2359hrs on 31 August

I've just read Aaron Hunt has told Werder Bremnen he is going to leave, we here apparently interested in him in January, could be in for him again.

Might not be a bad idea that Nick, I wouldn't be too quick to get rid of the W's, with their work rate and all that jazz, but if we're doing business early and getting replacements in, I'd be happy to see them go, and wouldn't be suprised if TP came knocking in the closing days.

My perception of Whelan's performances is as Ricc's. I never used to have a high opinion of his talents. But he is clearly enjoying a renaissance , which must be attributable to our new manager. On reflection , the little of his international games that I saw , did indicate that he could "play a bit".

As for bringing in new ( better ) players , we finished the season doing rather well , so is a lot of "surgery" necessary ? I do understand that "to stand still is to go backwards" , as our rivals will , of course , also be trying to improve.

My main reason for us to spend - spend - spend , is that I would rather see marvellous players again wearing the red and white. I get no enjoyment at all looking at Coates' new Bentley or his villa and yacht.

Well, it is his money, and while I'd prefer most of it went in taxes to pay for important things like schools and hospitals, he's under no obligation to spend it on players just to make Stoke fans happy.

I think Pulis was generally looking at the wrong players and trying to do the wrong deals IMO. Like I have said before, I was associated with someone very close to him and always referred to the pissing contest TP would have with any new or potential signing. Whilst I agree that the games players have got above themselves, TO allegedly always had to have himself as high almighty and was keen to monitor pay, inline with his. Just an opinion from comments I have heard!

Well I am of the opinion that the words of Coates last year when he stated 'that the club has to self sufficient.' He backed TP to the hilt. In previous posts last year I advised that Denise is applying pressure that the family recoups money it has ploughed in. They are of course entitled to do that.

It would be good to see that the £76M won by Stoke City FC could be used to fund purchases. It seems that Hughes has a nose for those players out of contract and if we can agree a fee for Assaidi all the better.

I am away the next couple of weeks so do not be surprised if you hear nothing from me.

I think TP may have been after desperate players thinking they would be easier to control, hopefully now that we are playing football it may be time to fill the corners in and try to generate more revenue by ticket sales, would help with this self sufficiency lark.

Well then , what is his reason for owning our club , is it to do the best he can for Stoke City F.C. , or is it for Stoke City F.C. to do its best for Peter Coates ?

    KKB...you echo my thoughts 100%

I am very nearly at the point when enough is enough with football.
Sick to death with pound signs.
Sick to death with being sponsored by bookies.

Just ain't the same game anymore.

Dunno...not interested in the.World Cup, think I will stick to Rugby.

I think filling in the corners now is a serious option, or at least the one between the Boothen and the West stands.

He is a Stoke supporter, he wants to see the club do well, and he has invested a lot of his money in the club. That doesn't mean he's a bad person for not investing all of his money in the club.
