Aston Villa star Ashley Young has passed a medical at Manchester United and will complete his transfer by the weekend, Sky Sports reports. The England international's representatives had held talks at Old Trafford earlier this month and personal terms had been agreed before Young went on holiday. Now back in the country, he is believed to have undergone a medical today and is expected to sign a five-year deal with United before the end of the week. Young's move to the Premier League champions had been expected for some time. A series of excellent displays for club and country caught the attention of several clubs, and Sir Alex Ferguson moved quickly to get his man at the end of last season. As well as starring for England on several occasions, he continued to enhance his reputation with Villa during an impressive campaign. The 25-year-old told Villa at the end of the season that he was desperate to try his luck in the Champions League in the forthcoming season, which he will now hope to have the opportunity to do with the Red Devils.
It is good news, but the position that really concerns me is the GK, more than even the CM position, we can exist with our new signings and the existing midfield, but obviously we can't do without a top draw GK, I know there's al this talk about Gea but as yet nothing has been substantiated on him, and I just can't see another opton if he doesn't sign.
Do you think? I've heard £17 million, which I think is very pricey for a guy in the final 12 months of his contract. Having said that, I think he'll be a good signing and am surprised about how much negativity shown by some United fans about his expected arrival.
Agreed. He is more than I expected but he is a good player, versatile and best of all Queen Kenny wanted him!!!!
It's quite a lot, but then he wasn't showing any signs of trying to actively force the move. I think he's told Villa he wants to leave but not threatened to run down his contract like Nasri reportedly did. He seems to want to leave Villa on good terms, so they were able to get a price closer to his true value than we'd have paid had there been a risk of a Bosman next season. I also think he'll be a good signing - he's arguably the only true left winger we have what with Nani being primarily on the right, Park not being a true winger and Giggs being too old for the flanks.
Sky are reporting £16mil whereas The(bastion of truth)Sun is reporting £20mil.Thing is,the market is so inflated at the moment,I look at it as:-He's an England international, knows all about the premiership an can assist an score.
I may have my reservations about signing him but I will give him a chance before judging him. I will say this, he is a good crosser of the ball so Hernandez and Rooney will love playing with him.
You could go ----------------- GK Rafael------Rio-----Vidic-------Evra ---------Carrick-----Fletcher--------- Valencia--------Young---------Nani ----------------Rooney---------------- ----------------- GK Rafael------Rio-----Vidic-------Evra ---------Carrick-----Fletcher--------- Nani--------Rooney---------Young ----------------Hernandez----------------
