New Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is prepared to wield the axe to get rid of the Mourinho generation, the Daily Mirror reports. He may have to ship-out some of the key players from his mentor's time at the club to ease his arrival, although he knows that not even wholesale changes will stop the comparisons. He said: âThere is no way I can avoid comparison with Jose. But I didnât take the Porto job nor the Chelsea job because Jose made the same steps. Theyâre two of the most sought-after clubs in the world and in the end I had the *opportunity and was able to make them find something in me that they thought would continue their route to success. âChelsea appointed me basically for my human qualities and that is what I want to bring into this club again. âThe most important thing is to motivate the players to get their ambitions right, to reflect again on what the club has achieved in the last six years and we need to keep this route to success.â Having seen Avram Grant, Luis Felipe Scolari and even Carlo Ancelotti fail to get the same out of the personnel as the Special One, Villas-Boas knows he will have to work quickly to keep Roman Abramovich happy. âThere isnât going to be more or less tolerance for me if Iâm not successful so this is the challenge I face,â he told Chelsea TV. âI feel confident we can motivate everybody, not only the players but also the structure. I feel confident I can respond to the ambitions of the fans and the ambitions of the owner and the administration. âAs a technical staff we focus a lot on unlocking potential. Everyone has a little bit more to give and in day-to-day life thatâs how everyone progresses in their careers. âWe feel the players are the same. You have to stimulate them and motivate them to look for the things they didnât try before, to give them freedom of choice as in the end when the players are on the pitch, they face different *situations they must solve without the help of their manager. âThat is the kind of stimulus we want the players to have, responsibility and making decisions, because in the end the game is decided by those on the pitch. âItâs a clashing together of two good organisations and in the end itâs the relationship between all of our players that can lead us to success, and thatâs what I want to work on.â Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Nicolas Anelka, Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel, Salomon Kalou and Florent Malouda are all earmarked as being under threat.
Your ear marked list is probably about on the money... I would think AVB has a good idea of exactly what he can get out of these players Expect a fire sale starting next week
If 6 of those 7 ended up leaving I wouldn't be bothered Hoping AVB starts the revolution Pretty sure at the beginning of last season he sold their best defender Bruno Alves And look what Porto achieved
What a load of rubbish , so paulo, jossi , russain dude whose names escpaes me , are all safe? usual redtop paper rubbish, lets just wait and see what actually happens
I love the way it completely ignores Villas-Boas' comments regarding not making dramatic changes and respecting what the team has acheived over the last few years As above, usual tripe from the red tops who have run out of news today. Some players will have to be sold to make room for the inevitable few signings we make but it wont be more than 2-3 first team players tops.
