Davies and Hudd come across as top blokes and u know ! what **** it if they could somehow injure themselves in a World Cup , they a good lads and deserve to be rewarded with a world cup to look back on . Selfish twattness
So if our best player and one of our best players had been called up and got a season ending injury you wouldnt bemoan this fact? Or indeed if come Christmas they are absolutely fooked and have a serious dip in form or get injured then through lack of a break you wouldnt regret the month of summer football either? The difference with most other players in the England squad is they dont play every single league game of the season. Maybe it is selfish on my part but I'm thinking about Hull City. If a bigger / better club comes in to sign for them will you be desperately hoping they stay or will you say "off you go son, I dont want to be selfish. You leave us and we'll get relegated".
Reasons for wanting players to play international football... 1. Because they want to. Chester switched to Wales, purely because he wanted to play international football, Boyd and Cairney did the same for Scotland and Bruce for Northern Ireland. Davies is desperate to get an England call up and if he wants it, then I want him to get it. 2. Playing for your country increases your value and the more valuable our players become, the better it is for Hull City as a whole. 3. Playing in a World Cup is the pinnacle of most players careers, it's something they all aspire to do and chasing those dreams benefits us as a club. 4. Players can get injured in any game, or in training, playing in most internationals carries less risk than most league games as most are friendlies, it's not a good enough reason to not want them to play. 5. It makes international matches interesting to watch, I've watched several ROI games that I never would have watched if our lads weren't involved. For anyone who's interested, a summary of all squads announced so far... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/wo...-Complete-squads-summer-showpiece-Brazil.html
It also increases our pulling power for players, as they talk to City players and also see that a move here's not a block on an international career/
Reasons we dont want them to: 1) Players need rest. Training and playing for 12 months solid is ****ing stupid and invariably leads to fatigue and a lessened performance. If we had a squad full of top quality players who we could rotate it wouldnt be a problem. We're talking about our best players. How many times have we seen people have ****e seasons after a world cup and then blame the summer? And this is at clubs who can rotate players, we cant. 2) Heightened chance of injury linked to point 1. I can cast iron guarantee 100% that if Hudd and Davies HAD been called up and then broke their leg whilst in Brazil or had a comparitively ****e season next time out every single poster on this board would be bemoaning a lack of rest in the summer.
Obviously we'd be pissed off if any of our players got injured, just as we would if they got injured in the league, it's not a good enough reason to not want them to go. As for them being our best players, ironically, our only player in the World Cup is Figgy.
Yeah, Im talking about if they did get called up. How many posts have we had in the last 6 months whingeing about Davies and THudd not getting called up and I'm saying its better that they havent been.
There's a good chance that Jelavic will actually be the player to kick-off the WC. Slimmer chance of been the first goalscorer. Worldwide recognition for our little club.....
Off the top of your head, with no googling or research, in 20 seconds name the last 3 players to kick off world cups and who they played for? Loads of recognition....
It's all kicking-off on here.... Guessing El Hadj Diouf 2002 joined Liverpool straight after WC cos he kicked it off Miroslav Klose 2006 joined Bayern Munich for the same reason Stephen Peinaar 2010 was at Everton but his kick off was a work of Hoddle-esque beauty that it was inevitable he would end up at Spurs
The experience of a player travelling and playing in big games makes them more confident and better at doing it when they have to for us. When they have played at the Maracana against Ronaldo/Messi etc. they can bring that big game experience back to club football and will be more confident going to Wembley/Old Trafford etc.
