I'm quite big on economics and western politics in general and have always been a staunch conservative, having voted/canvassed for them on many occasion. Over the past 6 months or so I've been following UKIP and found myself coming in line with their views on Europe and economics in general. I feel my old party (more so DC) has lost touch not only with British people but with conservatism too. So I've voted for UKIP today for both local and the European elections divorcing myself with the party of the dear old iron lady and can't help but feel a little strange over it all.

Has anyone else made a big change this year or any other that they could never image making?

I don't mind Farage, bit of a character and has done wonders pruning UKIP of eccentrics who drag them through the mud.

I think Thailand have it right, invite all the bloodsuckers to a self-publicizing exercise and then arrest them <laugh>

I am ethically against the main purpose of UKIP, because I feel everyone, everywhere, has the right to live wherever they damn well please, so long as they have the means to get there. What exactly are these types of parties trying to protect here, the culturally British, or the ethnically British? Why does Britishness even matter? Do we really want to spend our lives humping our near neighbours for the sake of convenience? Oh she lives down the road, and works near me, so I must be in love with her <doh> I may get banned for pointing it out, but it's genuinely genetically incestuous to support such an institution.

The amount of people who complain about living here everyday, the **** weather etc, send them away and let someone who wants to live here have their spot.

Free right of travel across the world is not, by any means, an impossibility. Nor is it unsupportable in terms of socialist welfare, there just needs to be a 5 year residency rule before benefits etc can be claimed and, hey presto, we have it sorted.

Yes, there would be overcrowding at some point in the future, at one place or another, but it would follow a natural process of decline as well. People follow job opportunities and housing, and if overcrowding exists, people leave for somewhere else. It's simple.

Saw a 4 seater red car coming along the Durham Road when I was coming out of the pub and it was full of bodies and crawling along and wavering all over the place. I recognised some of the passengers as Labour candidates for Birtley.

Voting for UKIP seems to be as much a protest vote against the establishment as it is support for their irrational, xenophobic waffle. The BBC have a lot to answer for giving such a small time party so much air time over the last few years. Given that platform, it's been easy pickings for Farage in front of a receptive audience. At least it's now an actual genuine political party getting the protest votes and not The BNP - that was rather worrying in the last couple of major election nights.

The Conservative party could be revived after the election next year with a new leader. If Boris Johnson is to lead then I assure you that would be a step in the wrong direction he should stay as mayor of London, same with Michael Gove. I wouldn't support leadership from George Osborne either but I think the conservative parties best option is Theresa May, she has potential and would help the conservative recover from Cameron and the social democrat Nick Clegg.

Coalitions are formed when there is no majority vote for either party, not through a willing alliance.

I would never be happy with any kind of labour victory. Labour are one of the worst alongside the bnp, , greens and snp etc.

I'm sick of coalitions, they are terrible.

Unless we could have a coalition of a Gladstone/Thatcher partnership that would be interesting :)

growing up in a major strike etc ..don't want to go into it that much ..but that's why I will never vote conservative ...area never recovered .. she sold this country oot . hope shes in hell
