Good Morning Everyone, Another working week gone, and a nice long bank holiday to look forward to. Luke Varney has spoken of his relief after leaving Leeds. “To be fair, it was a bit of an awkward situation. “I didn’t feel like I needed to ask (not to play) because I would have expected a manager to sort things out once he knew another club had come in for me and I wanted to move on. “He wanted to play me in the Ipswich game but he didn’t need me in the 15 games before that. I didn’t do it to get back at him but it was in my best interests. I could have got injured. “It’s one of those things, we had an adult conversation, and we both agreed to move on in our own ways. That happens in football. As an experienced player, I felt I deserved a bit of an explanation about why I’d stopped being played.” “With the manager at Leeds, it was probably what I wanted to do. With the new owner (Cellino), I wasn’t sure if there was maybe a chance of me going back to Leeds but when Blackburn made it clear I’d have a settled future there, it was something I wanted to do.” More news to come.........
Morning Elland and all. I'd imagine lots of fans would have some interesting things to say about him too. Hopefully sometime in my lifetime, we will stop signing crap like Varney. The miracle is Blackburn wanted him or anyone. And he couldn't understand why McD wouldn't play him, unbelievable
Morning Eire, Suppose being a professional footballer, you have to have faith in your own ability, however bad Varney was for us.
Good morning from a damp dull Bardsey RE Varney you have to be a certain type of player if you are to succeed at ER Varney did well for Holloway at Blackpool and for Portsmouth but the step up to Leeds was a bridge to far as it has been for Hunt and will be for Stewart Im afraid to say unfortunately BM failed to see this problem which has probably cost him his job whereas Smith relishes it
Morning all. Varney did at least try his best. Its just that his best wasn't good enough. When he comes back to ER for Blackburn's away fixture, no one will care. He might even score and celebrate. But no one will care. It just didn't work for him at Leeds. Heyho, we move on. By the way, did we get a fee for him?
As far as I know Boggers we didn't get a fee. Blackburn are clearly stupid but not insane. His contract expired at 30th June
Morning all And here was me thinking Varney missed the Ipswich game through having a heart attack at the idea that a club actually wanted him. Happy to have him off the wage bill, and as Boggers said I won't care about his revisit to Elland Road in the slightest next season. As his contract expires on 30th June and so Blackburn will have signed him on a pre contract (no fee) I imagine we probably still have to pay him his wage in June as well?
He will get some abuse from the Leeds fans guaranteed. lucky he didn't get it after his antics against Sheff Wed away but refusing to play for us means he will get some stick
Morning all I dont know why but I thought Varney was off to Ipswich. I know he was on loan at Blackburn and Green was at Ipswich but for some reason I thought Varney was set to sign for Ipswich. Too many late night beers (or early morning ones!) Everyone well? Plans for the long weekend? I'm off to Bournemouth to watch my mates perform with Dr Syntax and the mouse outfit so I'm pretty excited considering theres no football
Ever hear such diatribe...'i didn't want to play incase i got injured' these modern day pampered players do my fooking head in. I hope he rots on the bench at Blackburn too that kind off attitude drives me mad. Lads would kill to get a chance to play professionally for Leeds and he moans off because off something that might happen, excuse of a man
A very intersting read in the Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/may/22/club-by-club-guide-championship-finances-2012-2013 How these clubs are allowed to spend 140% of their turnover on player wages is criminal!! Note the following Cardiff City Wage as a proportion of turnover 190% - Promoted Hull City Wage as a proportion of turnover 152% - Promoted Palarse Wage as a proportion of turnover 130% - Promoted Leicester City - Wage as a proportion of turnover 133% - Promoted this season Peterborough - Wage as a proportion of turnover 62% - Relegated Seems that the clubs that live within their means are ****ed over big time - only way to stop this is by dishing out point deduction per percentage to the offending clubs. Cardiff, Hull, Leicester and Palarse have all bought their way to the Premiership - no way is this an even playing field
Suprised the biggest financial story so far has been missed. The Haigh winding up petition has lead to the company who deal with LUFCs card payment system witholding all payments pending the outcome. not one penny of Season ticket income has been handed over. This has resulted in LUFC only accepting season ticket sales by cash or via the interest free loan arrangement. just a guess here but i would imagine the club shop is only dealing in cash as well. This is a double blow as it means the income is likely to to off limits until at least August and will impact on any transfer kitty (if we have one). Secondly it will put off a number of people from buying a season ticket due to inconvenience or worries about the viability of the club to fulfil it's fixtures..... This looks like the biggest problem for LUFC and Cellino so far to me. In other news Haigh is still in jail.
Morning all ... Varney is a cnut ... the FFP is a joke because if you break the rules and get promotion to the Prem you get off scot free, but if you do the same and get relegated you get in trouble ... the frozen bank account is a worry, because you wonder what Cellino is playing at, he knew about the loan falling due in April but didn't repay it, then comes the petition and he decides to go to court with no backup plan in place for the freezing of our bank account ... makes you wonder if he knows something about GFH who are clearly trying to silence Haigh ... they lured Haigh to Dubai with a job offer, then had him arrested in their offices for very serious charges ... it seems they don't want him to talk to the media about Leeds, having previously warned him about it ... something is not right, and GFH may well have robbed us and Haigh wants to tell ... remember, Haigh broke with GFH and was instrumental in getting the club sold, and GFH almost botched that as well ... Haigh had to put money into the club personally in November to save us from going bust when GFH simply refused to continue funding the club as owners, and then Cellino took over that responsibility in January ... something does not sit right with this arrest, and Haigh's problem now is he is in Dubai, it's their rules, and GFH may even have gone as far as to do some creative accounting to set up Haigh as the fall guy for any wrongdoing on their part ... remember, Haigh had no power at Leeds, so difficult to see how he could have had access to moving money around ... GFH have been criminal in their behaviour, and refusing to pay the bills underlines their arrogance and contempt for our club and the game ... it may well turn out that GFH drop the charges against Haigh but he is sworn to silence in return ... after all, Tory Boy surely isn't that stupid to fly to Dubai to potentially join the company he allegedly swindled millions from unless of course he didn't do as they now claim ... if Haigh did steal money, and it's proven, then good luck to him, he'll need it in prison over there because he will be in for a long, long time ... can we get Bates to Dubai? "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
Haigh had no power, yet he admited that he sanctioned the spending of club funds on cctv cameras in the Khazi?
[h=1]Leeds handed boost as Heurelho Gomes heads for Tottenham exit[/h] The Brazil international failed to live up to his £7.8m fee from PSV Eindhoven in 2008 - becoming a regular on the bench after the signing of Brad Friedel in 2011 and then in the reserves when Hugo Lloris joined a year later. And Championship outfit Leeds are preparing to offer the 33-year-old a life-line as they look to replace current number one Paddy Kenny. But the Spurs outcast would have to slash his current wages in able to join the Elland Road club due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.
[h=1]LEEDS SET TO RIVAL CLUBS FOR FREE-AGENT[/h]Leeds have yet-again been linked with Tommy Rowe according to the Express and Star. Wolves seem to be the favourites for Tommy Rowe’s signature rivalling four other clubs including Leeds. Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry believes Wolves suit Rowe as they both share the same ambition. Brian McDermott made Rowe his priority last summer but failed to advance into negotiations with Peterborough due to the asking price. The left-sided player is out of contract this summer and will announce his plans for the future in the coming weeks.
