Home » Premier League » Sunderland Midfielder staying with Black Cats Sunderland, Latest news update: May 22, 2014 9:17 AM Views: 1,197 Sunderland midfield Seb Larsson looks likely to stay at the club and is thought to be close to agreeing a new deal at the club. There had been talk of Larsson being allowed to leave the club and Hull boss Steve Bruce was very keen, he is a big admirer of the Swedish midfielder after working with him at Birmingham, and then signing him for the Black Cats. Bruce is in need of more quality and experience for next season's Europa League campaign and it looked as though he could make yet another move to land Larsson. However reports from Wearside suggest that is not now going to happen and Larsson is more likely to stay with Sunderland. "They (Sunderland) have suggested it (a new contract) and we'll see what they come back with," said his agent Per Jonsson. "We want to be clear with his future relatively soon. Preferably before the World Cup, if possible." Jonsson has also dismissed suggestions that Italian giants Napoli are in the hunt and says the player would prefer to stay in England anyway.

hopefully he maintains the effort of the end of the season and not the piss poor performances he put in for 3/4 of last term. there's no doubt he is a decent player and has ability i just really hope its not another bardsley situation where you only see his best when he needs a new deal

I'd be happy with this, we can't completely overhaul the squad, there has to be some level of continuity, and Larsson still has a lot to offer us in my opinion. I just hope that Gus genuinely has worked out how to get the best out of Seb, and that he wasn't simply playing well to try and impress potential suitors.

His reaction to the fight and towards the fans says to me he felt it, happy to keep him on board, 1 year contract though

Would say two years personally, so if it doesn't work out and he reverts to the apathetic performances he unfortunately sometimes produces, we can get at least some money for him. I have a feeling that won't happen though, like you say he looked like he felt a connection to the club over the last few games.

If the wages are right then it makes sense, might even make some money off him in a years time.

Amazing how things turn around. Eight weeks ago he was dead to us, but a couple of good performances and he's flavour of the month.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset to see him stay, but where were those performances for the previous 33 games?

This is what I don't get. What the **** goes on in their heads, during training, pre-match, changing room just before the game, and then on the pitch?

How does a player go from being a liability to a re-signing. I'm not just thinking about Sebs, it's pertinent to most of them.

Agreed... But somewhere I saw stats that we rarely lost when Seb played. His work off the ball is overlooked sometimes although he has been great at pointing things out this season!!

If he carries his form on he'll be a massive asset for us.

I'd give him 3 years so that, at worst, we can at least sell him next summer. Disgusting management that so many proven PL players are able to leave for free.

Glad that he's staying though (if it happens) - the 'summers of change' over the past couple of years have got us nowhere so I'd love to see some continuity. He's a decent enough age and is versatile. We might even need him to fill in at RB given that Bards'n'Gards have gone.

Now get Jack, Marcos and Vergini (can never remember how long his contract is?) signed up!
