Group of death for Liverpool???.

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by LuisDiazgamechanger, May 21, 2014.

  1. Playing someone like Barca would be interesting. sure, we'd probably lose but it would end something like 13-12 <laugh>

I remember, once we were in group of death. No one gave us any chance. We eventually top the group.
I am not sure if it was during the time of Rafa.<ok>

2nd group stage of 01/02 was pretty hard - Barca, Roma, Galatasary - We qualified due to better results against Roma.

I don't think we have anything to lose this season. There is no expectation regarding CL, I hope we get a difficult group and play gung ho attackign football. I just hope we qualify for 15/16 CL

I don't think we will fear anyone - it's a strange one though isn't it - for us who've supported Liverpool for years CL/European footie was part and parcel, but with a new inexperienced manager and team it's like we are euro virgins.

Think that's a good thing (although it will probably end up being stressful like our streak last season), no real expectations from fans (other than obviously wanting to go all the way because we're LFC, but you know what I mean) so they should just get out there, do their thing, try and play without fear and see what happens.

    I can't argue with that.

CL nights at Anfield are special and although we will be saying go out and see what happens, no doubt we will be on here moaning after a poor performance or result. I don't think it will be a case of lower expectations once the thing starts.

As you tend to play with just 6 players its likely any group will be one of death for you.

  10. Most of our players are too. We have a fair few like Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Gerrard Lucas, and Suarez that have played CL before but there a hell of a lot more that haven't.

And it will be the biggest test of all for Mignolet, let's hope we can get a decent line in front of him to help him out.

Really can't wait to here that theme tune and watch us take on some of the worlds best again.

Win, lose or draw, just going to be fantastic to be part of it. We're near enough guaranteed one huge team from pot 1 (unless we get Benfica) and then hope we get a bit kinder in pot 2 and 4 to give us a good chance of progressing.

Unless we get a really tough group, we could have a decent chance of getting, say, 6 or 7 points at home and 3 or 4 points away. Time will tell whether that would be enough to progress. Obviously, the aim would be more points. The big question imo is how long will it takes for the team, and particularly Rodgers, to get used to Europe. It's taken Man City long enough...

Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Gerrard, Lucas have all played CL football for us.

Sakho, Coutinho, Suarez have all played CL football before they joined us.

Most of them have played EL football with us.

Hopefully shouldn't take too much adjusting given a lot have already played in Europe together, something that the City players hadn't done given they were new to the club and the club was new to Europe.
