i'm less concerned about keeping pockettino than I am about the board tbh. pochettino signing a new contract would only placate me in the sense that it would indicate the direction of the club.
People keep mentioning that one business as if KL failed...perhaps it was never viable and Markus made a mistake. He stepped in with a rescue package. Perhaps it didn't fit in with the rest of the portfolio. We will never know, but businesses offload parts of the company all the time. Southampton FC is viable or at least will be in a very short time when the initial outlay is covered. We certainly don't fit in with the rest of the portfolio, but doubt she is planning to hive us off yet.
i believe she was also involved in mali motan before her father died, which was liquidated. edit: it might have been Mali Spezialfahrzeugbau or both.
Exactly. Bigger clubs than ours have trouble keeping their talent, for whatever reason. Ronaldo left United, Bale left Spurs. I guess the only thing is that those are isolated cases and not the reported mass exodus that is apparently happening here, even though it hasn't happened yet, and still may not happen at all. I must remember to fit those rubber sheets tonight, just in case.
That is why I want Mauricio to stay as he is a footballing man and his happiness at Saints would mean a lot. Most of the board is untried in this field, so (although giving them the benefit of the doubt) I am on a wait and see footing. Don't think they mean us harm or have any intention of asset stripping (as first thought when Cortese left), but you can do harm without meaning to.
According to Radio Solent: Southampton have declined to comment, because of ongoing contractual issues with the pair. **I thought we did a fair impression of losing it when NA was replaced. I recently looked back at the thread which covered the subject, and, of those who commented, and there were many, [including me, I might add] only PTF truly kept his head from falling off. Granted, by the time the media had grasped the story and tried to make it into a meltdown, we'd already recoevered our Saints composure, but don't run away with the idea that we can't be headless chickens too. Siince July 2011, I seen enough on this forum to know that much.
Natural worriers I agree, but there was no trouble at the ground, no marching in the streets, and it took about 5 mins of the Everton game for us to lose our grip on our comfort blankets.
Does anyone do that about football matters these days, apart from when a club may be about to wind up..?
If I was MP I wouldnt sign anything until the Board made it clear which players were staying and how much transfer budget I was getting. I think we could bne on tenterhooks for a whiole yet.
My issue is not that we aren't being told anything, it would be nice to know but would ultimately change nothing, it is that it is apparent that they aren't communicating anything in terms of a plan to either the manager and the players. That may be wide of the mark, but it is certainly the impression given by various interviews by said manager and playing staff. I've heard from a few that we shouldn't criticise the new board as nothing has happened yet, but it appears that inaction is having a negative effect on our ability to keep our most prized assets. Again maybe thats wide of the mark but its certainly the impression given. I wasn't particularly impressed with KL's decision to install someone with no significant experience of either business or football as chairman. Even if his role is diminished as compared with Cortese, he is still the figurehead of the board, and it smacked of installing a "yes man" particularly when a more experienced candidate (John Williams) appeared to be available (although I accept we don't know the extent to which that is true). I hoped, and continue to hope, to be proved completely wrong in that regard, but the lack of communication between the board and manager/players in a crucial transitional summer period is not a particularly positive first move on their part IMHO. wrt Cortese; ultimately, whether he realised it at the time or not, Cortese's vision, in some sense, died with Marcus, it just takes time for the impact of such events to take effect. KL, for all the rhetoric, obviously does not share the precisely the same vision of her father, since her father's vision and Cortese's were intrinsically linked, and rightly or wrongly she couldn't work with Cortese. End of that chapter, start of a new one only time will tell whether or not the next one is as enjoyable as the last, either way its not the end of the world. Owners, board members, managers, players, stadia, (even stripes!) they are all transient - the club remains.
ML had a lot of various businesses, when he died, those companies that fitted in to the main Company were absorbed, those that didn't were wound up and disposed of. Some of it seemed a bit heartless at the time and no doubt there were a few job losses, but I guess that's business for you. I don't pretend to understand the whys and wherefors.
i'm not pretending to know whether ML had any aptitude for business either. he was an engineer from what i've gathered. the only person I had faith in the ability to run our football club was NC and even that was hard earned. When Pardew was sacked I can't say I had full faith in NC, but we were in a much more privileged position at the time to weather the storm and by the time we sacked Adkins I think i was a lot more confident in his decision making on the football side. definitely wasn't happy with NC in many other peripheral areas, mind you.
In fairness, I always thought (with hindsight) that PTF was the voice of reason over that period. I certainly wasn't!
