Why would we not want Gouffran on our payroll? Decent enough squad player. Not a great 2nd half of season but who did, and he was great up till Christmas. There's enough there to be wanting him as back up to the new wunderkind left-winger (and forward) we are no doubt going to sign this summer.

Obertan on the other hand can feck right off.

Shawcross was an attractive option about 5 years ago but I'm not convinced he's gone on to be the top player he promised to be. He is worth nowhere near £12m, mind. Half of that maybe, although I think he may not be right for us. We need real pace at the back and does he really have that?

Mike Ashley and probably franchise owners such as Subway, McDonald's and KFC.

Shawx is an excellent English talent and one that will probably be on list of quite a few clubs this summer. 12 million seems far less than we would consider, although it's hard to justify he is worth any more. He hasn't had the best of seasons for us (although still very good) and has struggled with Huth being out half the season - I actually rate him as the better if the two.

His wages are low(ish) compared to some of the bigger clubs which makes him even more valuable to us. I don't think we would accept any offer for him (within reason) because we would struggle to replace him - as some have stated he probably has the best years still to come. The only way he will leave is if wages turn his head or he feels it's his only chance to get an international opportunity.

Hopefully you Magpies won't find him sparkly enough to steel him from under our noses!

I'd rather go for Caulker. Only 22, and we could probably get him for 6m

    a) Why the hatred for the gouff? Overall he had a better season than half our first team.

    b) Caulker for £6m a year after they bought him for significantly more? They are more likely to hold onto him and see if they can get back up again unless they get an offer at least matching what they paid.

Leave Obertan alone, he's great on the payroll, just a pity it's as a player. His pace could be used behind the bar on match days, we could employ him as a ball boy (we'd only need him, he's quite pacy and can get around the pitch - just don't let him kick it), his head could be used as a sunshade on sunny days, his employment prospects are vast.

On the subject of Shawcross, I feel he's another Steven Taylor, great potential but appeared to hit a glass ceiling and hasn't improved past it for the last few seasons. For Shawcross it was the Ramsey incident, for Taylor it was relegation and injury that season but neither have fulfilled their early promise.
