Thought it would be good to have an thread devoted to images, pictures and film of our beloved Blues. Seen it on other forums such as ShedEnd where posters share pics and flicks about Chelsea: old and new. Bet Bucks, King Os and Bluemoon have some interesting images to share. And others can post their favourite images too... EDIT: And recollections too
LOECW--I have a spare room at home called the "Chelsea Room". It is packed with books, magazines, programmes, photographs, statues, ornaments,DVD's and other memorabilia going back over the years! The only thing I haven't got is any IT skills and the ability to show them off on here! Perhaps I'll get my son who is also a Blue and an IT whiz to help me , next time he's paying us a visit! PS I have a full set of programme's 1946-47, the first season after the war!
That would be brilliant. My pics etc are grabbed off the net mainly and start from late 70s. Any old images of our players, the Shed, Stamford Bridge, our supporters away, etc would be wonderful to share etc
The Shed was more or less created by a bloke called Mick Greenaway! When I first started going SB held huge numbers but it was mostly silent. Only a goal interrupted the silence! Then in the mid-late sixties, this bloke who could be heard all over the ground, started zigger-zaggering, and that end of the stadium became to be populated by all the noise-makers who wanted to join in! The shed is now part of Chelsea culture, but poor old Mick who created it was banned by the club, for allegedly being a member of "Chelsea head-hunters" which was not true! He died a young man and was buried in a paupers grave! You would do well to Google Mick Greenaway! You'll read a great story!
I remember Mickey well when he used to get all the train tickets , after he died there was a do at the bridge to raise money for a headstone for micks grave and i think Bates let the organisors use the facilities free . It was the sun that published the story that mick was a member of the headhunters and rather than check the club banned him for life, a group of supporters also had a season ticket for mick but by then the drink had got a grip on him and he rarely used it . A real blue and sadly missed when you look at the atmosphere now

ShedEnd -I remember taking my wife and very young kids down to Torquay for a long weekend in the early 80's. We stayed in a beautiful flat above a large pub, about 400 yards from the seafront! Chelsea happened to be on a closed season tour in the West Country that year and while we were there played Torquay United! On the early evening the wife was getting the kids ready for bed, and I said while she was doing that, I was going downstairs for a pint! There was just me and one other bloke in the bar! Suddenly the door opened and in poured the Chelsea supporters club who were at the game and the bar was packed SOLID!!!! I turned round and there was Mick Greenaway shouting his head off! I said to him, "what was the result today Mick?" He then turned to one of his mates and said, "Can you remember what the score was?" Priceless!
That sounds about right ,also the story goes that at a pre season tour all the lads were doing karaoke and when it was mickeys turn he sang 1 man went to mow and the rest is history .
An old BBC video, narrated by Gerald Sinstadt going up to the 1988/89 season: Part 2: Part 3: Part 4: Part 5: Part 6: Part 7: I do own the original vhs of this and it seems to have been part of a series. The inside sleeve shows videos for Liverpool, Man United, Leeds and Tottenham as well as some FA cup final videos.
Blimey Blueboy, you've given me a big lump in my throat! I haven't watched it all yet , but I'm sure I'll find a lot of stuff on here that I saw at the Bridge! Many thanks!
Just finished watching it all. Tears of joy and sadness are rolling down my cheeks, the lost years of youth brought back to me by scenes of unbridled enthusiasm and never say die attitude, and that was just the fans. My son is 22 and I will tell him watch this, so he can retort to the jibes of. "You ain't got no istery." I will never forget the first match that I went to at "The Bridge". The pitch seemed miles away, due to the dog track around it, (against Tottenham), as a kid I was more in awe of the supporters and atmosphere than the football that was being played. I had to ask my uncle what the score was the next day, I knew we won but the occasion had got to me, rekon it was the first time I had been drunk on adrenalin. Hope someday my lad will will be doing the same thing as me, without the horrible memories of relegation and financial turmoil that nearly extinguished a fire that had been burning since 1905. Next time we lose, I will watch these clips and remember tomorrow brings new hope, and realise that football is supposed to be enjoyed, no matter how bad it seems at the time of the loss, wake up the next day and rejuvenate my enthusiasm, as the players had to, and did.
wow. You are making me pine for the Bridge Havent been in so long (98/99 season against West Ham in the game that pretty much lost us the title). Used to go with my old man, now he has passed and I have been busy in the last 15 years getting married and stuff. Now I have a kid of my own its more reason to start going again I think. When she is a little older.
Actually think it is the 94 game v United! Always blamed Leicester game and Poyet injury for costing us the 99 title! My daughter is 4: may take her to a preseason at Kingsmeadow
