Gards off to WBA

CRAIG Gardner is expected to complete a Bosman move to West Brom before the weekend.

As the Echo revealed last week, Gardner was told before the end of the season that he would not be offered a new deal by Sunderland, with his current contract expiring next month.

The Brummie had been limited to a fringe role under Gus Poyet and was widely expected to join West Brom, who been tracking the midfielder almost since he first arrived at the Stadium of Light in a £6million move from Birmingham City.

Gardner is thought to have been at the Hawthorns today for contract talks and is expected to complete a deal with the Baggies by the end of the week.

West Brom will become the third West Midlands club that Gardner has played for after previous stints at Aston Villa and Birmingham.

All the best to him, some great goals for us, and some smashing memories, like being on the metty to SJP.

I really do think he'll do well for WBA, they need that kind of player, a 'water carrier' type.

A few really great goals, but never cut it. Salvaged something by being able to play RB and could slot a penalty, but we really needed a legit CM for our 6 million and he never delivered.

Gardner, decent finish against us for you lot before Januzaj took care of business. Average player in this league, won't pull up any rugs at WBA either, strange transfer since they've no manager.

 

Aw man, wish more did. You have a lot to say, a widely accepted, it would make a nice change, from seeing the usual 1/2 dozen names man.

 

Same with most boards though mate, few post topics then most people just chuck their tuppence in.

 

Thanks for the effort craig and some half decent goals as well. Always gave 100% even if he is limited as a player.
