there is a limit tho Dai as to bettering a player or helping the clubs future. I can see it both ways - sell bony for double for what we paid then maybe buying 2 players
I have never wanted us to ever stop a player no matter what from getting a better club if an opportunity came up. that is why he plays football as a chosen career. The same with the manager. If he is wanted by a bigger club then there should be no if's or but's if he wants to go we should never stand in his way.... I was chuffed for Martinez and Rodgers because they have achieved what they have set out to achieve and that is to reach the top by being wanted by a bigger club...The same if Barca were to come in for Martinez then everton should not step in his way because barca is a bigger club....I don't believe anyone has the right to stop anyone from getting a higher standard of job if the opportunity arises..
Why musty?. My limit is not allowing any club of roughly the same standard or below to entice any of our players on a contract with an extra few quid. Its the standard and size of the team is the important thing for a player and fair play to bony he has stated that...
I have no problem with a player bettering himself at a better club, and would not stand in his way, that does not mean however that we should accept below par offers just for the player to better himself. A player should only be sold if the buying club meet OUR valuation.
Unfortunately, swan, the player's contract often dictates transfer fee level, which may be below his Club's valuation. Player power, who needs it?
Are you referring to a buy out/release clause? In which case that's the clubs fault, not the players. When was the last time we were forced to sell a player below our valuation?
People tend to forget that in the football world it's only the fans that are loyal - and not all of them Some fans had a pop at Rodgers but who could blame him? Swansea to Liverpool? Absolutely a no-brainer. Many of my mates criticised him and his ability but he's proved them all wrong. I still think he's a blarney merchant (ie bullshitter par excellence) but he's a top coach that deserved a crack at a bigger club. Same with players who are only 'loyal' whilst we pay their wages. I don't blame them at all because it's the nature of the game. Bony should grab his chance if it comes along and I for one wouldn't blame him, but as others have said it has to be a deal that suits us.
You misunderstood my post.it's not about blame. Players nowadays dictate what goes into their contract. That's the better players, the most sought after. They can insist in a buy out/release clause, and the Club's have to acquiesce.
Well that goes without saying as that is usually the case unless we let a players contract run to far down like we did a few seasons ago. I think that taught us a big lesson...
We can of course if we have a player on a watertight contract (which they should always be on) say **** you nobody is going nowhere next season regardless who comes in and however much they offer ....we need everyone of our key players for next season and nobody is going anywhere whatever the price.... but that would be wrong imo, It would be perfectly in our rights to do so though....
It would be perfectly in our rights to do so though............. Then do it, the sooner clubs stop pandering to players the better. If they're happy to sign a contract then honour it simple as, unless a both parties (the club and the player) agree to the parting of the ways. When the boots on the other foot players hang on thier contracts until the bitter end contributing nothing to the club i.e. Lita, Ngog, Alvarez, etc. a contracts a contract so abide by it.
I think Bony will go but not because he's particularly looking for a move. Constant newspaper reports linking players to other clubs will have an influence unless he returns to Ivory Coast after the World Cup. Also there is the draw of Champions League Football. Other than Arsenal I can't see him fitting in with another UK club that would suit him but continental clubs might. Reasons for him to stay - only one year in and he may not want to be unsettled at the start of another season (conjecture will then be focussed on January) and I think he genuinely loves the fans and the adulation he receives. If he goes or not I think we should cast an eye over Alfred Finnbogason Fulham had a 7.5 million bid turned down in Jan and Celtic are also looking his way, 79 appearances 65 goals over three season - consistently in the leagues top scorer list. He will be well awaar of Bony's success here and, while we can't offer European Cup football, that may be enough of a pull. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfreð_Finnbogason (transfer info link not working)
definitely got the goalscoring instinct, has form for coming up with the goods in big games as well. Good shout that.
