Where would you like the club to go and play this pre season? Keep in the UK shores, mainland europe or further afield again?
I'd like to see them back in the Asia Cup, increasing their profile further again. What I don't want to see is them at home playing Lower league teams.
I know that feeling, last year they were supposed to be coming to Bangkok, and Gonads was ready to come over. Sadly they cancelled. Think the USA would be a good choice, sure there would be good numbers, especially if Altidore is still at the club.
I'd like us to host a tournament myself. The Bidvest Cup, Get the Bidvest Wits F.C. over and couple of high profile teams and Boom!
A tournament at the SOL sounds like a good idea, I think Ajax was the last high profile pre-season we have hosted, last year was a disaster.
I'd love a friendly with Rangers at Ibrox. Would deffo keep some money back for that. A weekend on the piss in Glasgow, ****ing great. Haway Shorty, get it organised, I'll even take you to the pub with no name.
Would like us to have more quality games than last season, after asia cup we disappeared! I thought the Cabra Kid looked good in those and 1st EPL game then he fell off the edge of recognition, even new manager didn't,t fancy him
Agree with the Celtic/Rangers suggestions, had a great time up there a few years back when we played Celtic. I would like a couple of home friendlies, but I think it's impossible due to the concerts etc that generate huge amounts of money for the club. I thought we'd agreed to go back to Hong Kong, did I imagine this? That thing in Amsterdam was ****ing class the other year as well, summat like that would be boss. Maybe a game with Gateshead given their rising profile (could hit the league today), would be great for them financially. Like Comm says, we were supposed to go Bangkok which would have been UNREAL, but we got offered more bucks to go Hong Kong and pied it off. There's financial logic in a USA tour, for sure.
So long as we stuck 8 or 9 past rangers that would be fine. Doubt there will be a pre season tournament at home though. With the concerts at the SoL over the summer the place will need a rest.
Personally, Scotland or Ireland for the crack. Sensibly, somewhere that Poyet's preferred 'style of football' can be developed against similar teams.
Portugal again seems to make sense for that, we had a good pre-season over there couple years back. Also means I can have an excuse to **** off with the lads and play golf... win/win.
the Amsterdam tournament is brill, 4 big teams from europe playing , then on to germany or spain plenty of decent opposition, so we can start the season with a bang
