Anyone fancy Gera back at the Cottage?? @BetVictor: West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the release of five players Zoltan Gera, Steven Reid, Liam Ridgewell, Diego Lugano & Scott Allan #WBAFC
I just have to rise to the bait, and would love my man back. Needs to make good for that red card. COYW!
Where's Boateng? Still looking for another club apparently... please log in to view this image Link to pic: http://ts2.mm.bing.net/th?id=HN.608010615843128221&pid=15.1 "Fulham misfit Derek Boateng is all set to exit the Craven Cottage with Charlton Athletics and Watford reportedly interested but the Ghana international could return to Sweden. The 31-year-old was spotted in Sweden last week as he sat in the stands at the Friends Arena to watch his former club AIK Solna in action against Mjällby. Boateng, who joined Fulham before the start of the season from Ukrainian side FC Dnipro, reportedly met with AIK officials after and had chats with Ghanaian internationals who play at AIK and Mjällby though he did not confirm his return to the players." Crystal Palace are in the hunt for Kieran Richardson according to the Sunday Mirror. please log in to view this image Link to pic:http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=HN.608045173154382079&pid=15.1 "The 29-year old has been at Fulham since 2012 having joined from Sunderland for around £2 million. Since then he has made 48 appearances for the club whilst scoring six goals. The midfielder, who can also play at left-back, currently has a year left on his contract and with Fulham’s relegation added to the duration left on his contract he will be available for a cut-price deal in the summer. Also Richardson has one of the highest wages on their payroll and it is likely that summer savings will have to be made in order to prevent debt in the Championship and he will be one of many to leave the London club. Palace manager Tony Pulis is aiming to bring more experienced players into the squad next season in order to provide a mid-table finish having recently avoiding relegation by the narrowest of margins. The former Manchester United player will be a spectacular addition to Crystal Palace’s squad as they do lack the depth of some of the consistent mid-table teams and this is the first step for them to achieve their goal."
I'm a big fan of Richardson (when played on the left of midfield), but if this is true then it sums up the confusion of Jol's reign. Jol signed Richardson because he thought he can convert him to left back - why on earth would you make a project player one of your highest earners? Although I guess "highest wages" is all a bit relative, since offloading Berbatov.
Once the likes of Bent, Stek, Riise, Duff, Hangeland, Ruiz and Riether leave then Zverotic will be one of our highest earners!
I read today that Newcastle are interested in Darren Bent. Now that's the transfer strategy of a club losing their way (take two).
Rumours around that the Arsenal are after Stekelenburg. "Arsenal are considering a summer move for Maarten Stekelenburg after seeing back-up keeper Lukasz Fabianski call time on his career at the club following the FA Cup victory against Hull City at the weekend. Fabianski played an important part in Arsenal's long awaited first trophy, but with his contract due to expire, no renewal has been agreed and he now looks likely to move abroad. Stekelenburg, who missed out on Netherlands' World Cup squad, is understood to be keen on a summer move to re-find his form. The 31-year-old is thought to have a cheap price tag, given that Fulham have now missed out in the lucrative money involved with England's top flight"
No loss really. I thought he would be class when he turned up but injury and poor form have hit his time with us. I think his confidence was shot by the time he let in that soft goal against West Brom - how we could have done with those two points - Good luck to him if he moves on but he was never really right with us. Another of Jols flops, I'm afraid.
Just been reading a few posts on FOF and there appears to be a little sense if panic about the number of players leaving and no sign of anyone coming in! I would return to the initial point of this thread, the sheer ridiculous numbers of players we had plus the number of promising youngsters who can be given a first team SQUAD place means we can easily get rid of players without needing anyone in, other than defence we could lose tons of midfielders and strikers and still be ok keeper - Stekelenberg out, no replacement needed Defence - New defence needed Midfield - even losing Diarra, Karagounis, Sidwell, Duff, Holtby, Kvist, Boateng, Ruiz we wouldn't HAVE to buy anyone we would still be left with Parker, Kasami, Richardson, Roberts, David, Kacanicklic, Williams, Dejagah, Tunniclffe, Cole Forward- We have five forwards when only four are required so we can lose one here without needing a replacement Mitroglu, Woodrow, Dembele, Rodallega, Trotta If Mitroglu goes I would invest in a top senior striker Let's not panic and just see how it plays out
Think you're being a tad optimistic Cookie. Most of the midfield you say are 'left' are likely to go. As are mitroglou and Trotta from the forwards. All of which would add up to "not a lot of experience". The picture on the "Captain" thread shows that story.
Obviously if they go we will need to replace the but as it stands right now I'm not concerned that about ten midfielders have left what we have left as it stands today is not bad at all!
