Application to English Heritage causes further delay

    From the Chairman:

I would like to be in a position to give you some positive news after the trauma we have suffered over the past couple of weeks, but alas that is not the case.

Some of you are aware that several weeks ago, a person or persons who do not wish to reveal their identity, applied to English Heritage to have the whole of the Memorial Stadium site listed as a War Memorial.

As a result of this application we have had to employ a Heritage Consultant to produce a detailed report in response to this application.

We have been advised, that whilst there is little chance of this application ultimately being successful, we still have to go through the process and submit a robust response to the application to English Heritage.

The unfortunate result of these actions is another delay, which is very frustrating to all of us.

Until now we have not raised this matter in the public domain, as we did not want to give the applicant a public platform to raise the profile of their actions.

However, now that the application has been responded to and our Heritage Consultant’s response and reports are lodged with English Heritage, we wanted to explain the current situation.

We now have to wait for English Heritage to issue their decision.

I will keep you updated as soon as we hear anything further, but we still hope to be able to start the development of the UWE Stadium in the summer.

Some idiot with a delaying tactic - ridiciulous

This smells of **** and by that I mean I wouldn't be surprised to see that toad Lansdown pop up as the root cause of all these problems by funding them. I have no knowledge about it but a gut feeling that he harbours sour grapes that we have had the stadium plans accepted and his plans for the village green stadium for the teds turned down'.

    Paranoid!

This was my worry with their forum closing. We read their threads/posts and they were all a complete bunch of ****ing idiots, They are the real "anti city" and they hate us with a passion, the old lads on the rovers 606, yes they don't like city but they've "grown up with us" sort of thing so they know about banter etc, these new lot have only ever been with rovers fans so I just hope their numbers are limited as they make the move over. I won't be putting up with any of their **** if they come onto this board...

to be fair to him, it is his opinion. an opinion that i dont agree with but he is entitled to it. that opinion has been mentioned before on this site when TRASH lost their appeal at the judicial review. they said they had no funds which is why they were doing raffle tickets etc then all of a sudden they had the funds from nowhere. someone on our board mentioned at the time that they wouldnt be surprised if it was lansdown. its all conspiracy theories. but thats football <ok>

surprised at this comment. when each new member joined the city board i was delighted for the site and delighted for your board. would have thought you guys would want us to grow a bit too. more numbers the better. dont worry about our members. continue as you are shiny, if i can like you then they will soon grow to like you too ;)
in all seriousness, you know what gasheads you can have a laugh with on here. we will still have a laugh with you and they will see that we get along fine and they may even then join in too. dont write them all off and put them all in the same crowd. 1 new person (out of around 30 new people) said 1 thing that he thought lansdown was involved and bang he gets this reaction. give them a chance shiny <ok>

worse case scenario you still got me and the rest of our 606 gang. best case scenario we could have a fair few more to join in with us <ok>

when you read the epitaph on the gates of the Mem, it does make you wonder how the hell the ground could be developed WTGR to the r*vers....

1914 - 18 IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE SERVICES RENDERED TO THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR BY RUGBY FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF BRISTOL THIS GROUND WAS ESTABLISHED
    ......1921......
    1939-45
AND IN THE WORLD WAR OF 1939 - 45 THE RUGBY FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THIS CITY GAVE THEIR SERVICES AND THEIR LIVES TO THEM ALSO THIS GROUND IS A MEMORIAL.

I have no idea why the gates are the only thing on the entire land that is listed instead of the whole land. I am not savvy with the reasons behind that but it does make me wonder why there was no complaints at all about all the new houses that were built on the land the other other side of the car park. why now take it to english heritage?

also i read somewhere else that english heritage was already consulted on the plans for sainsburys back in 2012 and they were ok with it then. not sure if that is true but that what i have read.

its getting to the point now that even i am having doubts that uwe will ever happen!

I must admit Brett old chap, this is the biggest pile of hypocritical bollocks I've ever read. Just because one of our members posts a derogatory comment on our board about your owner, you get all pissy? Do me a favour <doh>

If we reacted the same way every time someone on here posted a comment/thread dissing us we'd be in a permanent state of rage! Man up and stop being a drama queen.

    That's worrying CJS.
I don't understand how the gates were listed in the first place? It clearly states on the epitaph that the GROUND was left to the war dead and veterans but how on earth did the gates become an issue and who accepted it?
This was a very strange decision but I see it as a delaying tactic although, morally, it appears clear that the GROUND was left not the gates.
