Application to English Heritage causes further delay

    From the Chairman:

I would like to be in a position to give you some positive news after the trauma we have suffered over the past couple of weeks, but alas that is not the case.

Some of you are aware that several weeks ago, a person or persons who do not wish to reveal their identity, applied to English Heritage to have the whole of the Memorial Stadium site listed as a War Memorial.

As a result of this application we have had to employ a Heritage Consultant to produce a detailed report in response to this application.

We have been advised, that whilst there is little chance of this application ultimately being successful, we still have to go through the process and submit a robust response to the application to English Heritage.

The unfortunate result of these actions is another delay, which is very frustrating to all of us.

Until now we have not raised this matter in the public domain, as we did not want to give the applicant a public platform to raise the profile of their actions.

However, now that the application has been responded to and our Heritage Consultant’s response and reports are lodged with English Heritage, we wanted to explain the current situation.

We now have to wait for English Heritage to issue their decision.

I will keep you updated as soon as we hear anything further, but we still hope to be able to start the development of the UWE Stadium in the summer.

    Oh for God's sake...

This is clearly why the forum went down then. People were discussing this before the club announced there'd been an application.

I cant see how English Heritage can actually do anything about this. I am no legal expert but surely as its already gone through the whole legal system and planning permission has already been granted they are too late to get involved. They should have done this at the beginning or before / during the Judicial Review process, not now!

    We will be fine.

    Oh for ****'s sake <grr>

How many more ****ing obstacles by dopey frigging pricks with too much time on their hands and a ridiculous agenda are we going to have to overcome?

Things like this are now simply vexatious and the cloak of anonymity which these people hide behind should be lifted. They should have the courage of their convictions, the dirty cowards.

Also, why doesn't Higgs give a timescale? Having submitted the necessary documentation, surely he must know the approximate time it will take for English Heritage to issue a decision?

This smells of **** and by that I mean I wouldn't be surprised to see that toad Lansdown pop up as the root cause of all these problems by funding them. I have no knowledge about it but a gut feeling that he harbours sour grapes that we have had the stadium plans accepted and his plans for the village green stadium for the teds turned down.

My money is on a certain university employee who started a petition

Trash has not been disbanded and there are still 4 active directors

Between them this stinks of toys out of the pram as they won't accept the democratic decision

The ground's facilities are so out of date the memorial ground should become a listed building.

Spot on Fabba - you were quite right - it is that certain university employee. And you're absolutely right - the tosspot won't accept the democratic decision which has been minutely examined by both the planning authorities and a court of law.

There comes a time when such challenges become vexatious and those making them should be made liable for costs incurred by both the club and Sainsburys.

What I don't understand about these things (and it happened to our stadium) is how a very small number of people can derail a project that the vast majority of people want to happen??

Top point by bluebaldee about vexatious challenges
