Referees chief Pierluigi Collina, speaking at a UEFA meeting in Turin, said the change would be put forward to the International Football Association Board (IFAB) at the start of next year. "We're going to propose this new rule to IFAB, whereby the player who causes the injury temporarily leaves the pitch as long as the injured player is being treated off the park," said Collina. "Maybe in the future we could tell the player (who committed the foul) to leave the field as well, and (they both) enter the field together, when the other player is ready. "The current system isn't fair. The player who commits the foul is only cautioned and stays on the pitch while the team with the injured player is left a man down. "It effectively gives an advantage to the other team." Collina said the proposal only concerned fouls deemed "dangerous" and worthy of a yellow card. UEFA plans to submit the proposal to the IFAB at their next meeting which is set to be held between February and March 2015.
Its almost genius. However, one obvious flaw with it... Person fakes injury, caused by other teams best player...both get to sit on the side while the "injured" person's medical team decide which magic sponge is required. Other than that, it'd be funny to watch.
If that's passed expect the amount of Chico Flores' to instantly multiply faster than bacteria, feigning injury for grievous hair bobble injuries and the like.
In the last euros, in Greece's last group game they needed to hang on to their result to progress. They were hanging on in the final 5 or 10 minutes when a Greek got 'injured'. Such was the extent of the injury the player was grounded for a long period of time before the stretcher was called over and the player was stretchered off the pitch. Upon the stretcher moving off the field of play, the morbidly 'injured' Greek shot up, jumped straight off the stretcher and back into play. Rules would need to be implemented to crack down on the feigning of injury including post match analysis procedures with power to hand out appropriate punishments for cheating. 3 match bans and heavy fines.
Have they even attempted to think that through? Players would get a touch from Ronaldo/Messi and then get stretchered off.
I think if a player goes down 'injured', then comes back on perfectly fine, he should be booked for faking it. Unless it's a blood injury or concussion, there's not much treatment can do other than give it a bit of a rub. Booking players for simulating injury will stop it happening so often. And if a keeper needs treatment after a collision, he should have to go off as well. That'd be even funnier.
This is just so out of touch it's unreal. How often does this injustice they're going on about actually cause a problem? What's far more of a problem is players going down in an attempt to win a free kick, penalty, get another player booked or sent off or sometimes even just to waste time. At the end of games when a team is holding onto a lead there's often a suspicious rise in head injuries which require the game to be stopped, and it seems to be certain teams who do it more than others. These things are the real problems in the game but these numpties are inventing their own problem and resolving it by making up new rules that threaten to make the existing problems even worse If they weren't famous ex-players, you'd have to wonder if they're even football fans at UEFA.
Rock paper scissors to decide if it's a foul or not. Incidentally, the amount of protection goalkeepers get is bordering on obscene. I know football is supposed to be non contact, but target men and big strikers must get so pissed off with that rule; even when keepers jump into them they seem to give away free kicks. I think that needs addressing, it seems like nearly every corner a keeper comes out results in a free kick to the goalie.
What if the three subs have been used. And the injured player needs to come off? Does the assailant also miss the rest of the match!? Awful awful idea
Should allow play to continue always with the physio allowed to come on. He'd come on about twice a season with this rule change
