I'm a converted real ale man these days so would give it a whirl. Went out on Sunday and ended up supping mild? I'm not sure how that came about but I was rough as a badgers arse on Monday morning.
We're The Tigers, it's only when some clown tries to make our nickname into our playing name that we get annoyed.
I get Newsome's ales from Booze for you on Newland ave, and they're a proper micro brewery affair, very nice indeed. This one could well be a stout, as they do one called Gems stout, Gem's the family dog on the label. Very nice it is too. Not that i drink a lot of beer of course Edit: Just had a gander on their website, looks like they've started using the dog on all their ales,so scratch the stout thing. Edit: The dog's dead.
I believe Rhythm & Booze in Cottingham sells their bottles too. Expect to see this in any, if not all, of the below quality boozers; Lion & Key Walters WM Hawkes Sailmakers Arms Black Boy The Old House Ye Olde White Harte Whalebone Wellington Inn Minerva Pave Botanic George Hotel Maybe the local Wetherspoons might jump on it too. Good stuff
I went in WM Hawkes and Walters for the first time on Sunday, decent battle cruisers the pair of 'em. Didn't know Hawkes existed to be honest, that's where I started drinking mild. Mild? Who the f**k drinks mild? Apart from me. Obviously.
It was an old gun shop. Stood empty for years, and the person who ran the shop was called Hawkes or something. So they named it after him. I reckon it's only been there 2 years or so. Think it's a very nice pub.
Agreed, it's a lovely pub. I was out with the bloke who actually owns the building. He gave them free reign to do what they want with it and it's turned out really well. I did suggest turning it into a titty bar but it was the mild talking. f**king mild?
Whoever created The William Hawke should get an award. Spot on. Yet someone else turned Quayside from a proper pub to a beer shop!!! Anyway, real ale. If you buy it, do you get a pint or fanny about with the tasters?
I get a pint but did see the little 'flights of ale' they do in Minerva last week and thought it seemed a good idea.
