Fallon has been linked to Bristol Rovers, but he wants to hold out for a Championship side ..... I don't think he'll get one ... what do you all think ?
 
A target man who can't score goals,........who will only be an asset if he has two or three gifted players who have the ability to latch on to his knock downs.

The problem is to benefit from him you can only play one style...........HOOF BALL............is that the Championship way ???
 
Was when we were last in it according to some plymborn. Is it also not true that most target men need a gifted anticipator to play alongside them? Didn't Mickey Evans also need one and did he not score prolificly? Why are we even bothered about what Fallon thinks he is worth anymore he has gone. He stuck by us even if we were not the most complimentary so we at least should be graceous and wish him well wherever he ends up.
 
If you mean it was Argyle's way in the Championship then yes I agree.

Mickey Evans was a great favourite and held the ball well for others to make use of, but his Arygle scoring record was very average.

His scoring record compared to Fallon's from Argyle stats

Evans.......384 games played..........73 goals............0.19 goals per match.

Fallon.......101 games played.........22 goals.............0.217 goals per match
 
Fallon needs Championship Club to have Championship wages like he was getting at Plymouth when they paid him of course.

Fallon is good enough for League One. Although having said that if he was in a good team that could make him look good (like Mackie at QPR), with a good passing game, he might have a slim chance of Championship play.

He always seemed to be crowded by defenders when he played the targetman last season and this was why he looked so poor at that job, I think he got more stick from most fans for being slow off the mark and not working as much as say, mackie or noone.

Fallon did his best for us when he could have walked. He was certainly not the best to ever put on a green shirt but I don't think he was the worst either. We struggled to create much in recent times and I think we may do again. Luggy seemed to favour utility players and Peter Reid has not had much of a chance to mould his own team with the squad mostly being one he inherited. Our most creative assets have moved on for one reason or another so I'm hoping for some useful loanees. Best of Luck to Fallon anyway. He was loyal and did his best, even if we didn't appreciate him.
 
No they don't and it is obviously something lacking in their locker plymborn. Nothing like a good welly it and hope at times. What exactly is hoofball anyway. I take it to mean play it long and not just a hit and hope. Lets be really honest here. The vast majority of teams do this at times, not always it's true but definately sometimes. How many times have you watched a match on tele and there is a 60 yard pass. Many times is the answer yet this is called a brilliant ball when it is done by a top club. When somebody in a lower league does it then it is known as hoofball. That is all Glen Hoddle could play then. Ok he did it very well but there again he was a top player so was slightly better at it than the lesser breed but nonetheless it was hoofed a long way. It's a bit like defenders and row Z. In the prem it is a great interception. Lower down it is hoofing it into Row Z or the carpark depending how big your stands are.
 
I remember when he was linked with a move away in january but stayed because "god told him too stay". I dont know what god has been telling him now but saying that he did come along much better in the second half of last season and decided to put some effort in and could probaly do a job in league 1but definitly not the championship.
 
A sixty yard pass can be a thing of beauty when delivered by someone like Beckham or Scholes in their hay day (others as well of course).

It would be delivered not just in the general direction hoping that the receiver might be able to get his head on it,but direct to the receivers foot or to run on to without breaking their stride pattern.

Now that isn't hoofball thats high skill and that player won't be playing lower league football very much longer.

I think playing in the World Cup left Rory with delusions of grandeur but he is a genuinely nice bloke and I wish him well.

I think a better comparison than Mickey Evans would be John Sims who older Argyle fans will remember or even Terry Austin - neither prolific goalscorers but more than useful on their day.
 
Leaving Fallon aside, I'm not against the concept of a big centre forward in principle.

There's all the difference in the world between lumping 60 yard balls up through the middle - which is ugly I admit, but I'll go for it if it's successful - and a few direct passes to quick wingers feeding crosses into a big man - which doesn't give you 75% possession and 40 pass moves but can be extremely exciting in the traditional English style.

I haven't rated Fallon but he's a damn sight better player than any of us ever was and I don't suppose any failings were due to lack of effort on his part, so good luck to him wherever he ends up.

And welcome Your Lordship, good to see another familiar face, so to speak!
 
Hold on guys at least Fallon has dropped his estimation!!

Didnt he say last season he believed he could be playing in the Premiership :laugh:!!!!!!!
 
He meant the Primaryship........be careful he'll get upset if you take his toys away,he's brought those from the kindergarten.
