Well said jock. Presume us Irish are allowed in the club? Personally love watching England in penalty shoot outs specially against the nice Germans
nice one m8,now your here can you help the other two out of the keep net. can you get me a bottle of the beer to try as they aren't selling it in England.
Of course, Eire. TBH, the ABE club isn't that exclusive. Not many countries want england to win. And don't forget about Argentina when it comes to penalties. Almost as delicious as watching replacy of Beckham getting a red card against them. Imagine - a red card for kicking an Argie. So much irony, I laugh out loud at the very thought of it.
Yer we are like the Leeds of international football, where as you would be Donny rovers, roll over happy just to keep the score down to 5 or 6.
I think we'll continue this conversation if you guys actually grow some & come up to Glasgow for a game. Then we'll see .....
Agree we should make more effort to play the little countries but its not easy when you always have Euro's and World cups to play.
I don't think that defence is good enough to win the premier league. I don't like Johnson, he's good enough going forward but is poor defensively and I think you'll find Liverpool fans find him their weak link. Cahill is good enough imo. but Jagielka worries me and the backup defenders are shocking, Jones and Smalling are nowhere near good enough. However I think Baines is a truly worldclass left back and Shaw is on his way. Rest of squad I would say are good enough however its annoying we don't have a better option than Welbeck as he is useless even if he is backup. Barkley imo. is a great player and will be huge for england in the future, maybe not gonna play that big a part in this world cup but could be a surprise package for countries that haven't been paying attention to him.
I also think its a much better squad than that of 2010, we will still be **** imo though coz we still have a terrible manager that doesn't know how to get the best out of players
Morning all. With our first game being against Italy, I think we actually have a better chance of progressing than some on here might think. The Italians, like the French, are notirously slow starters. If we can show a bit more effort and determination than the opening game in South Africa, who knows where it could take us? Let's be clear. I can't see us winning this or even getting to the final. But performances with a bit more effort is all I ask. For the record and having not checked to see if this is possible, I think the final 4 will be Spain, Germany, Belgium or Argentina, & Brazil
Boggers, all I want to see is some half decent football. The players are good enough to deliver that but it just hasn't happened in a very very long time
I don't get people's criticisms of Hodgson either. Qualified for both major tournaments so far and in the Euros got us further than the squad he had available to him arguable merited, he's handled a difficult transitional period very well and has overseen the move to promising young talent everyone wanted to see and yet is getting no credit for making that decision.
I think Welbeck is very underrated by a lot of people too. One of the few scum players to come out of this season with any credit and a consistent performer in an England shirt. Defences like Uruguay's could find it very difficult to deal with his pace and physicality, because he's not a natural finisher people write him off even though there's a lot more to his game.
Would be interesting to hear Ellands views on him as he would have seen a lot more of him than most of us
