Announced: GK - Hart, Forster, Foster DEF - Baines, Cahill, Jagielka, Johnson, Jones, Shaw, Smalling MID - Gerrard, Lampard, Barkley, Henderson, Milner, Lallana, Oxlade, Sterling, Wilshere ST - Rooney, Sturridge, Wellbeck, Lambert Here's a question ... is this squad good enough to win the Premier League? Another question ... is Warnock right about Barkley not being a good enough player? "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
Here's an answer...yes that is good enough to win a PL Here's another answer....Warnock is wrong. Look at Barkley this season under Martinez, a manager who appreciates what talent he has and is helping him to flourish by encouraging him to express himself on the pitch. I haven't seen a player like him from England in a long while, Gerrard I guess would be the last young player I held in similar regard when seeing him first.
That squad would have a very good chance of winning the PL. I know Walcott is injured and Lennon can't get into the Spurs team enough. But I think this team lacks a bit of pace. That said, decent enough. So long as we get out of the groud and give sides a decent game in the subsequent all will be well.
Group of death ya's got too could have been easier. Uruguay will top it and then Italy and yourselves may battle it out.
I think it's a brilliant squad & you're nailed on certs for winning the World Cup. Can't wait for it to start. Also can't wait for the redtops to rip into you - it's more entertaining than the football. (Btww, the redtops would never do that to the Scotland team. All their buildings would be burned down before the ink was dry).
You've got to be joking? Half the starting eleven is going to be made up of players from the Liverpool team that just finished a close 2nd, with a much better defence and the options of Rooney and Lallana up top. That England squad would definitely win the PL. Only one Premier League player in the squad, the back-up goalie, plays for a team that finished below 8th, yet put them together and they're a "very average" bottom half team? Come on man. I don't think anyone really expects us to win the WC, but I've never understood this attitude so many fans have of insisting we're **** when we're not. Compare that squad to 2010's and it's such a drastic improvement it's unreal. Don't think England will win it, but I think we'll surprise a few people and gain some confidence from the future. A tournament similar to Germany's in 2010 would be great. Only change I'd make to the squad would be Stones for Smalling, but can understand that it might still be a bit early for Stones and Roy knows Smalling from Fulham.
Well we won't have to worry about the Scotland team being ripped apart at a major tournament, will we?
Scotland are more tactically astute than england when it comes to the World Cup. Let's see which team embarrasses itself most over the summer!
Hmmm ... one big problem as pointed out is lack of pace ... you can't win the Prem nevermind the WC without pace ... look at the speed Man City counter attack at, Everton as well ... the WC is all about patience and attacking when the time is right, quickly ... the other thing is that to win a tournament you need a strong squad, which is why the likes of Germany, Spain, Holland, Italy always contend ... when Germany can bring players like Podolski, Muller, Ozil and Khedira off the bench in the last WC it speaks volumes ... pick your England starting eleven, then "injure" four players and replace them for the next game, how confident are you now? "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
Not joking at all, the top four clubs' best players are all foreign, Suarez, Aguero, Hazard, Cazorla etc padded out with the odd token English player here and there. In fact, of that England squad, maybe only two, Barkley and Lallana, would make it into a PL XI. Maybe I was being a bit harsh saying they'd be bottom half PL, a mid table finish would be more likely, sandwiched between Stoke and Palace
Billy, I've very disappointed at your attitude. Please get yourself sorted out & crank up some ra-ra stuff to get everyone's hopes up. The last thing we Celts want to see is the english being prepared for WC humiliation. Let the penalties begin .... (Wonder what lucky bastard will get the Pizza hut commercial this time?).
I would go for Scotland playing and losing to Cyprus or New Zealand in a friendly. Many years ago England didn't qualify was the most boring world cup ever, better to be there and lose than not to be there at all,and You the Welsh,Ireland and N Ireland all know it.Jealous bitter and twisted doesn't become you.
I'm not jealous, bitter & twisted. I'm simply Scottish. And you guys don't get to join the club! LOL. We also don't believe we have the God-given right to win the WC, far less our matches. We're happy with our lot & often delighted to discover through the fug of a hangover that we actually won the previous day. Sometimes. Btw, Scotland have won their last 5 matches and are currently 22nd in the FIFA rankings, 218 points behind england in 11th place. England are 417 points behind Spain! And if we are that easy, why do england struggle against us so much?
[I'm not jealous, bitter & twisted= I'm simply Scottish]Same thing m8 We do believe we have a god given right to try and win it. And we DID WIN IT.No good winning 5 games after the serious games have finished are you Millwall in disguise.
