You yourself have said you don't follow the careers of ex-players, which is all he said, so I don't understand what it is you're objecting to.
I always get a feeling of pride when I see how our Academy lads have progressed, particularly as they are generally very grounded and lacking in the ego which is so commonplace in top level sport. I have yet to see any evidence that Luke is pushing for a move. That other clubs want him is obvious, but he may well feel that Saints are a least worth another season to him. If not, then I say good luck to him.
Selling Adam may mean we don't need to sell Luke...I think he would happily stay here whereas (despite hoping he won't) this may be AL's moment.
BBC reporting from St Mary's today to talk about WC squad and "with news of bids for two Saimts players" - I know, means nowt.
I'm not objecting to anything, I'm expressing my surprise at the attitude of some on this forum that express surprise when players wish to leave and the way they view them at their new clubs. I hate the thought of LS leaving, but good luck to him if he does, hope he does well apart from when he plays against us.
Not sure why anyone would want to sign for United at the moment whilst they have no manager. Yes, everyone seems to think it will be Van Gaal, but surely he won't be representing them during the transfer negotiations as he's not official yet. Therefore, the first time they'll actually meet the manager will be after the World Cup at training. To me (if I was a footballer), I wouldn't want to sign for someone I have no idea of whether I'd like or not (Shaw clearly seems happy playing under Pochettino). Also, United appear to have been after Shaw for ages, so how much will the new manager want him, or would he rather have one of his own choices?
He might have already agreed to take over there, in which case the club can say to players that he will be in place when they start pre-season. I also don't imagine they would make any signings without the incoming manager's approval, even if he isn't technically in the job yet, he will still be consulted.
For me there's a distinction to be made between Lallana and Shaw in that Adam has repaid the club 10 fold with his loyalty and performances over the years, so, whilst I'd be gutted if he left, you have to say "thanks and good luck" if he gets the chance of champions league football and decides he wants a crack. Shaw has benefited hugely from the footballing upbringing he has received at Southampton, its probably not overstating things to say he wouldn't be the player he is today without the club. He's 18 and, if he's the player we all think he is, will most likely get numerous opportunities for a big money/profile move. I don't think its too much to ask to stick around another season and see how things go here. If he decides to jump ship at the first opportunity, I wouldn't be angry just disappointed!
Yay, we get to see Luke Shaw (Manchester United) plastered all over the World Cup TV screens. Yay! NOT!!!!!!!! Media say Man Ure move quickly to secure promising teen sensation blah blah. What that really means is that Man Ure move to get themselves to the top of the dung heap, while we stay down below as usual swatting flies. Pissed off with constantly looking at the same old boring teams ruling the friggin roost. I actually thought our turn had come. But no, cheque books waved, players wave goodbye. **** off then Luke if you want to go!
