Apparently he stormed off to the airport after not being named in the team, not sure if this is true. Anyhow I can't imagine we will see him play in a yellow shirt again. If it is true he can hardly complain about not being in the team he has simple been inadequate; for the most expensive Norwich player ever would it be wrong to say he was worse signing than even Theoklitos? I think most of us believed we had signed a decent player for a decent price but apparently not. I wonder if Hughton signed him after a phone call from Luis Figo recommending we sign his cousin? After all the hype around him and him alone being pretty much our marketing strategy for this (last season) this represents a major embarrassment! Feed the wolf? It seems the wolf has an eating disorder... Needless to say he will go to another club and probably start knocking the goals in for fun.
Most over-rated/hyped player to set foot in our club. He cost £8.5m per goal, not even Torres or Carroll were that bad. Will be glad to see the back of Bassong and RvW. Let's recreate the three-amigos with Hooper, Redmond and Murphy/Bennett.
To be fair that's not really RVW fault, the club hyped him up and us supporters had high hopes. He was out with an injury for a while and had his confidence knocked out off him. In my opinion I hope he will stay and do well.
I don't think Bassong deserves the flack, he is not the one responsible for our relegation. To be honest none of the strikers under Hughton have scored a reasonable amount of goals, Hoolahan, Holt, Hooper, RVW, Martin, Morison, Elmander, Becchio. None of them have worked out so I am left not really having a clue whether RVW is capable or not. I think he probably still is but I doubt he'll be given the chance.
Our resistance to changing our style of play to fit with the new strikers we brought in was the whole reason this season was a failure. We played like we still had Grant Holt up front for the first half of the season and then struggled to change when it became obvious we needed too. Ricky clearly got bored with this season mostly because early on he'd make several interesting runs with no one finding him. He just gave up.
Would be strange behaviour for a player wanting to leave - if he wanted to go he wouldn't care about not playing. If it's true it suggests the club don't have faith in his quality. Probably the best way to cut the wage bill tbf Bassong is undoubtedly class. But his heart wasn't in it the second half of the season so I can't see how it would be in the Championship
Totally agree with both statements, but it's also worth bearing in mind that we had serious injuries to both GH and RvW early on in the season. I sit in the N&P and on several occasions, I saw him asking team mates to play the ball through the defence, but they either couldn't or wouldn't Fan sitting near me heard a RUMOUR that RvW has been sold for £6M. That would be incredible if true!!!
All stems back to the Villa game. If he takes the Pen that Snodgrass missed he would suddenly have 2 home league goals and a bit of confidence. Then he suffered from what I like to call crapserviceitous and then got injured. I could see him thinking "what the **** have I come to?" When all he was fed were long balls and crosses in behind him/ at the first defender. Feel bad for him tbh.
I agree with both bedford and suffolk. I can see him being going to another team that suits his playing style and fulfilling his potential. Mind you, he could do with 'bulking up' before next season.
we've totally ****ed up his career - i'd be pretty mortified too if the move i'd made had backfired. however, he was certainly sitting in the stand as my mate had a chat with him and a photo as bedford says, had he taken (and scored) the penalty against villa while he still had confidence and wasn't injured it might have been a different story. no doubt wherever he goes next he'll score goals again
I wonder what would have happened if we had got the number 10 we wanted last summer, or if we had played Wes in behind RvW from game one
