Jonny Evans has emerged as a target for Newcastle United Football Club.

Alan Pardew has cash to spend during the summer window, after selling Andy Carroll to Liverpool in a £35million January sale and Kevin Nolan, last week, to West Ham United.

The United boss has already been busy with the impressive captures of Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye and Sylvain Marveaux, and there are sure to be more to come.

It is believed Pardew has now set his sights on a defensive arrival, and at the top of his wanted list is Manchester United’s Northern Ireland international Evans.

With Chris Smalling and now Phil Jones providing cover for Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, the 23-year-old has suddenly found himself fifth choice centre-half for the Reds.

Sir Alex Ferguson is certainly not looking to offload Evans, but Newcastle are preparing an offer which could see the player gain regular first team action at St James Park.

not the most reliable source, but would you take him? tend to stay away from man u games! not seen much of him

Was class a couple of seasons back, was ****e last season. If he can get back to his best he'd be a class signing, would love to see him and Saylor at the back.

I think he's good when he's getting games, but when he's in and out, less so. Still a decent player

If he wasn't too expensive the yeah, but would need to play quite a bit to get some form having missed a lot through injury and not being selected.

I'd definitely take him. Dunno if he'd be happy to still play the bit-part role he'd probably play whilst here though

I'd take him, wouldn't pay anymore than 5m. He'd certainly add competition for places at CB

No, he got torn apart by Carlton Cole last season in the League Cup!! Over-rated due to Fergies claims of "future United captain"

I'd pay up to about 8m for him. Lets be realistic would never ever get him for 2-3m! Delusion at its finest!

I don't even know why he's gone so bad. He had loads of potential, Ferguson got rid of Pique because he thought Evans was a better bet to establish himself in the first team!! How the tables have turned.

Thing is Pique is world class now. But 2 seasons ago Evans was the mainstay in their defence when it broke the clean sheet record. He was solid. Then was off form for a bit... and is suddenly a joke.

Our backline got torn apart by Somen Tchoyi, and Jason Roberts seems to have a certain former Argentine international centre half's number. One game doesn't make a player, and as a young player who hasn't had a long run of games he's a perfectly decent player.
