Gotta feeling that lallana will drop a transfer request in after today(or maybe it has already gone in),think he has seen the progress Liverpool has made this season and maybe he feels that 8th place is has far as we can conceivably get to(without major funding into the 1st team) of which the club aren't willing to do, and does he see Pochettino moving onto Spurs(another deal already moving on behind the scenes),Adam probably feels we have reached our peak and he doesn't want to stand still now he has progressed further in the EPL, and England is beckoning.....summing up Adam off, Poch off.......move on players come and go,so do managers, it's at this time when we see how much ambition the club has to continue with progression or do they see no further improvement??
Depends on whether we want someone who is better than we already have in those roles, a different style striker for a plan b, or more depth. Rodriguez has 15 goals this season, Lambert has 12. That's not bad for our main attack. The problem is that beyond them and Lallana, there's no one else close to their goal record in our squad. If we're looking for improvements, I'd be looking for a better Lambert, as I think Rodriguez still has the potential to get better. Is there another player that could play that role as well as he does though? I think we need a like-for-like replacement for Rodriguez, as we struggle to get in behind teams without him. Welbeck would be good here, and he linked up well with Lambert for England. Personally, I think we need to improve our goals from midfield. Fischer has been mentioned which would be good, another could be Aaron Hunt (qualifies as English as well). Not sure these would necessarily score the goals, but might also improve the chances we create, with Hunt a good Lallana-type player.
No one knows what funds are available. We have been told there is money without selling players. Doubt it's City size money, but could be quite a bit...as I said no one knows outside the board.
Do you think the board have the ambition to try and push on,or consolidate 8th place or so again, and then try and crack the top 6,of which I think would take a sizeable budget in the next few years after?
I think our plan (just as with Nicola) was to show that there is a better way than throwing and wasting vast sums of money. It will cost plenty, of course, but the idea is to show that it can be done viably. If this works out, Saints will be a stable, much admired and successful club. Champions' League won't be next year, but I don't think it would have been with Cortese either.
