After seeing Englandâs under 21âs crash out of the European Championships at the weekend, I was waiting for an article such as this. Content is pretty accurate Iâd say in relation to the heart of English players these days and canât really argue with the fact that the money involved in England now is making club football preference. A point that will continue to rumble on until our national team finds successâ¦â¦â¦.so this point will rumble on for an awfully long time! They are paid too much nowadays and they don't seem to have the passion anymore. They should NOT get paid for playing for their country, it should be an honor that they are picked as the so called best players. Surely the clubs pay them enough that they don't need to be paid more to represent their country. These are thousand of players who would love to be in their shoes and I believe would put in more effort.
In Spain millions of kids play football all day, the long evenings with daylight, more space to practice and a culture of training young kids more regularly give them a head start. In England we have no ball games signs outside blocks of flats, its much easier to just put on the Xbox . In the premier lg we have most of the worlds best players and the others visit every year in the Champs lg. I doubt we will ever win a major international trophy but have world class football on our doorstep every week. With FIFA and pointless World cups in the dessert i feel that International football is dead and buried...
I think the problem is that the FA has no faith in English managers, so they resort to what i think is cheating by employing first a Swede now an Italian to do the most important job in English football, by doing this it has devalued the international game. Personally i'd rather lose with integrity than to win underhandedly that said the millions that has been paid to so called world class managers has achieved nothing apart from making the England job an attractive retirement plan to foreign managers looking for a final pay day.
I actually wrote my University Dissertation on the way added money within football has detracted from Club's emphasis on Community. About 30,000 words and a fair few sleepless nights later I can deduce that the Premier League has had a very detrimental impact in terms of the running of football clubs. "Rich are getting Richer Poor are getting poorer" springs to mind.
A substandard international team is the price we pay for having the worlds best domestic league, I am OK with that.
I kind of agree with PC / CS. I follow NCFC but can't summon the same enthusiasm for the national team - nor would I if we suddenly found an English manager. Norwich = just can't get enough. England = take it or leave it, though maybe that's because we're so consistently bad and underperform when we do qualify for anything major ?
I don't think we have the world's best domestic league either. Give me the bundesliga any day or the French league. One where more than 2 teams can win the title anyway.
