Wonder what odds you'd get on Uwe returning if Wigan don't go up?

I'd like Tuchel from Mainz. Not that I'm even considering MP not being here next season. Much. Well, maybe a little.

But I read in a paper yesterday that Spurs should look elsewhere other than Pochettino because he is not as good as Sherwood because we lost twice to them...

The article in the Mail is what we have all heard in interviews, but with a certain slant. Mauricio (and all of us) recognises that those above us are the ones you would expect to be above us...though he pointed out in the recent press conference that our 8th finish was partly due to some bad results before Christmas when we had injuries. The article does not make a direct connection between MP's need for funding and an interest from Spurs, whereas the title virtually makes his reasonable request to be supported as a threat.

However, I do think that a promise of money to spend (on the right players, not Chelsea-type spending) would stave off any thought of leaving. I'm sure Mauricio knows that he has the set up here that he wants...the players are the young, hard working type he needs for his style...he just needs more of them.

Exactly. Mauricio doesn't want 'star names' necessarily, but the right type of player. Ignoring Osvaldo, all his signings have been worthy of a top four team, but at top 10 prices.

I'm sure MP will go. I just don't know when!

A young manager, gaining some success and clearly aiming to build on what he's achieved in club management so far. What young manager doesn't have ambition, who knows perhaps he even hopes to manage the national side one day.

On this basis he's not going to be at Southampton for ever, but he might just stay for a bit longer if there's a real chance that the club will continue to move forward. If we can (he thinks we can) achieve top 6 next year that could be enough.

I think the Southampton board really need to convince him that they have the same ambition as him if he is to stay.

I think he has every intention of finishing his contract...extending it would take some bold action by the board. However, I don't subscribe to this idea that the board are doing nothing and just sitting on their thumbs...the meetings planned for next week will result from a whole lot of work behind the scenes. Some fans (notably on Saintsweb) think that a) the board have done nothing about planning for next season and b) that deciding on money available is just a matter of emptying Katharina's purse on the table. Major decisions to be made and they won't be made lightly.

I have just had a look on Player at the pre-match PC and I have come to the conclusion that amongst his other admirable traits, MP's ability to suffer fools gladly knows no bounds.
I don't know whether he will stay or go, but I am sure that I would rather have Mauricio saying nothing than Big Sam talking about getting a deal tied up, as he did with the Hammers last season.
