This is apparently based on the stats from this season, saw it on Twitter the other day.

    Ross Barkley, "wide midfielder".

Unless he's put on a lot of weight in the last few days, no.

Stats at great, but in reality, none of our English players are really good enough to be on that plane.

    Though Huddlestone's the closest.

Was Davies overperforming trying for a World Cup spot and when clear he wouldn't get one dropped performance? Will he subsequently be a disappointment next season?

I thought it was as soon as we made the cup final his performances dropped. You can't blame him really, he's 28 and missed out on the last 2 cup finals he's reached.

    That sounds like overthinking.

lets be real please lads, I would love to see a hull city player at the wc as much as the rest of you!! but i'm sorry thud is not better than gerrard, Henderson, Wilshire, barry, barkley or carrick (debatable that 1!!!) on current form!! davies as much as I love the lad is just not an international defender, he does not have the composure on the ball to play at highest level of international football and that's the sad truth of it. both quality players in there own right, but if we are being honest there are better English players out there.

Better English CHs than Davies? (bar the last few games) Nah there really aren't. Terry and Cahill are the only two that have noticeably outperformed him this season, possibly Jagielka but certainly not Jones, Smalling, Caulker etc.

Completely agree with you Willson. Caulker and Smalling shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as our Curtis. But I'd put John Stones in the list of candidates for Brazil. Kamikaze Jones...naaaa!!

Every statistical analysis website is against you. Davies has been one of the top performing English centre backs this season. Jones and Caulker have not been near him this season. Stones's positioning is very average however he is young so gets overrated. So out of them Cahill and Jagielka haven't had better seasons but are better players other than that there aren't any better.

statistics are misleading pal, as much as I love Curtis he really is not suited for international level. under pressure his 1st instinct is to hoof it, his passing in general is limited, as proven in the past few weeks when off form he can be like a pub player!! if he turned in one of them performance's at the wc he would get slaughtered!! again not a knock on davies I personally believe he's the best ch we have had at the club, but hes just not on that level as much as you want to pretend he is!!

I agree Davies Isn't to the standard that you would expect for an Engand centre half. However He is a long way ahead of Caulker and Quite a bit better than Smalling. People who slate Phil Jones simply know **** all about football.
Apart from the last few weeks Davies warrented a squad place in my opinion (based on the fact England simply don't have much quality)

Davies and Huddlestone are after the seasons they have had ffs.

Ok Davies has dipped of late but compared to the likes of Jones and Smalling who have been dire Davies should be going.

Wilshere and Ox are massive risks and are walking sick notes. The Ox is still a doubt for saturday thankfully.

Brazil is no place for half-fit players. 100% fit or you dont go. Simples.

Spot on ^^^^^ this. Today Tony Adams has had a right go at the lack of defensive quality. The depth is awful.
