Yes I do -. neither Everton or Arsenal are the elite level clubs that I think BR needs to defeat in order to move towards being an elite manager. I am referring to his comments post Chelsea to the effect of 'I would never play that way.' Granted, it could be lip service, but my point is - If Liverpool were to play a genuinely top european team, with, by all accounts a better team in better form (nobody Liverpool have played recently fits that as, to your credit, you have been the team to beat since February. Even City couldnt handle you in the first half) who 7 or 8 times out of 10 you would lose to - would Rodgers have the patience and discipline to 'park the bus,' 'kill the game,' 'do whatever the f*** it takes to stop ronaldo and bale scoring,' call it what the heck you like - or would he stick to his philosophy, become impatient and run head first into a potential 3/4 goal loss. Again - he has not had the chance to answer these questions - all I am saying is he is a level below the top managers until he has encountered such problems and solved them. This takes nothing away from the season he has had though.
Firstly, I must point out that I fully agree with whoever said they wouldn't want to see us play like Chelsea. Although winning the trophies was fun, I strongly disliked the football under Houllier. It was painful to watch and will give fans a early grave To the point though... Personally, I think Brod would adapt that tactic if he needed but I don't think Brod has the option to "park the bus" with the squad we have. However, should we sign a midfielder or two that are more competitive than Allen and Alberto, more energetic than Gerrard and more creative than Henderson (all very feasible although perhaps a bit harsh on Hendo), we would be more than capable of parking said bus if needs must. Of course, having Enrique back or another solid FB rather than a Johnson type would help too.
The fact that this season could end up feeling a disappointment is a testament to how far you have come under Rogers this season. Still think only one or two would get in the Swansea side though
Just something about the way he spoke when he was first appointed that made me believe he would bring the good times back to us - here's hoping the progress continues at the same level going into next season.
What a bunch of numpties. Actually most people were pretty balanced pointing out he hadn't won anything yet and were unsure of him.
Hey! I didn't post on this thread I must be a genius.....Except I love the bronzed white teethed God of football...I got a brand new dress to get his attention...
Good thread. Bit of positivity and support for the manager at last. I appreciate the way that Rodgers is a young manager and shows no signs of learning from his mistakes, and continued to engage in politics with players he didn't want to bring to the club even though they improve the team and are better than the dross he personally brought in. I also appreciate how the man is STILL clueless regarding the importance of a good defence and midfield. I also appreciate his philosophy of signing a big target man but pretending he can play with ball st his feet. And spending £20m on a defender for a position we didn't need. And thinking Lallana is as good as Coutinho and spending £25m on him.
I noticed that...you know when he finally goes you're going to have side step quickly into a bathroom...
