Marcos Alonso is likely to make his loan move from Fiorentina a permanent one this summer, according to reports in Italy. The left back arrived at Sunderland at the start of January and has made a positive impression since in what has been a problem position for years on Wearside. Now, with Premier league safety assured, talks are expected to keep the Spaniard in the north east. According to the report, Fiorentina would expect a fee of around â¬4m for the 23-year-old Alonso, but would be happy to half that should Mobido Diakite, who moved on loan in the other direction, be involved. That would obviously strongly appeal to Sunderland, who have a strict eye on the wage bill these days. A financial outlay of around £1.65m would look a bit of a snip for Alonso. It would be nice to actually own a decent young left back. Witchcraft, basically. http://rokerreport.sbnation.com/201...entina-transfers-marcos-alonso-mobido-diakite Have to say, with Diakite (who we paid nothing for), 1.6 Million is a snip to have a very good permanent left back at the club.
Good deal all round, a bit lax defensively but great steaming forward, very similar and not far behind Danny Rose in my opinion.
Awesome deal, may not always be the best defender but for going forward and making the team balance he has been the best ive seen for ages!
Great news if it comes off. Let's hope at least one very special loanee is still here as well next season. Fabio get signed son.
He's plenty good, shame we couldn't have kept Rose mind. Rose was a little bit better than Alonso in my opinion, but they are both cracking players. I will say that I don't think we've seen the best from Alonso by a long way. Even with Diakite going the other way to get Alonso for less than £3m would be stonking business. That is a lot of player for the money.
Talking to a lad at work who follows Italian football and he reckons Diakete is playing canny at Fiorentina but I think if a deal with them for Alonso to come here, well its a no brainer - imagine SAFC having a regular LB
And so begins the 'rumour mill'.... For the next 10-14 weeks we will be scouring papers / websites for anything relating to our beloved Sunderland (regardless of how ridiculous)!!!! I for one hope the 'Alonso' deal comes off.. I think he is great coming forward and is still young enough to learn his trade as a defender. Would be a great bit of business IMO.
