Just thinking aloud here but I wonder if the trip down under is so that they can delay any transfer activity as Pards is 'away with the squad'... leading nicely into the old 'not get them over the line' ****waffle Pards throws our way... just a thought...

Fabricio Coloccini held showdown talks with Alan Pardew and managing director Lee Charnley to determine exactly where Newcastle United are heading.

The Chronicle understands that the skipper want assurances about the club’s plans for recruitment this summer.

As club captain he felt it was necessary to be able to send out the right message to the dressing room and send out the right tone going forward.

Coloccini has never been afraid to express his opinion at United and openly questioned Pardew in the dressing room at Stoke City after he selected Hatem Ben Arfa.

Then, Coloccini felt that the Frenchman had won his place back in the team too easily after an outburst the previous week.

A source close to the captain told the Chronicle: “Colo cares deeply for Newcastle United.

“When he signed a new long-term contract two years ago he did so because he thought the club were ambitious.

“But like the fans he is concerned that there has been no investment at the club in the last transfer windows.

“If Newcastle are going to challenge again next season, the squad needs depth and the manager needs more options.

“Colo wasn’t having a rant at the club he was just having his say from a football point of view and as captain he felt he wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t.”

Fan-favourite Coloccini isn’t the only senior player to make his feelings known in recent weeks.

Indeed, Shola Ameobi – who could yet be handed a new deal – went public about his feelings last month.

Ameobi stood up for his manager in terms of a recruitment drive then and said: “That is something the club have to put right for next season.

“We need quality players and we need a quality squad as well.

“This has all been brought out to a lot of people but we, as players, knew that.

“I think the fans are getting to see that now.”

United owner Mike Ashley is believed to have authorised a summer spending spree this term after failing to spend a penny on a permanent signing in the last two windows.

The summer will be the first test for Newcastle’s revamped board room with new MD Charnley set to spearhead the club’s recruitment.

Charnley has previously worked closely with Derek Llambias and Joe Kinnear but will now have much more of a say on the deals.

Getting a new signing in the bag early doors will help pacify fans and players at United.

Talks have already started over signing Sunderland’s out of contract midfielder Jack Colback while Pardew also has a shortlist of British players he is eager to add to his squad next season.

However, a final list will have to be approved by the Newcastle board in an end of season meeting next week before Charnley can get to work on discussions with targeted players.

The transfer window opens officially for business on July 1.

And if all goes to plan United hope to announce new faces early in the window before the club’s pre-season tours to New Zealand and Germany.

Newcastle will also have talks with current players too.

Coloccini has already pledged his future to the Magpies but with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid linked with a move for Mathieu Debuchy and Tim Krul also keen to see more ambition shown by United this summer, Charnley and Pardew may also have to assure senior players that the club is moving in right direction.

Toon officials are also wary of disgruntled fans opting not to renew season tickets and know they must act accordingly.

Yet Ashley and Charnley will continue to stick to their stringent financial policy and work within their budget.

As Pardew plays no part in transfer dealings beyond origionally requesting certain players its irrelevant where he is in the world. The club can think of many other excuses though.
Its going to be yet another long and interesting summer for us. Lets hope we are pleasantly surprised this time with our dealings instead of stunned by our incompetance and inactivity as in recent windows.
Delighted Collo looks like staying, hope its the first of many staying that we had all written off as "definately" leaving. (Debuchy, Ben Arfa, Krul etc) That doesnt include Shola though who i think needs to move on.
