That's the thing. Yes you could prob get similar players for slightly cheaper from abroad but the risk is far greater as they've never played in Prem. It's still a risk as Lallana might not work out for us if he joined even though he's tried n tested in the Prem, but less risk hence the higher price.

  3. I still think Southampton won't sell Lallana for less than £20m

I should think their asking price will be higher and that's why I don't think he'll come - unless he really wants too and forces the issue.

The Bournemouth 25 percent sell on fee means we are talking a MINIMUM of £25m to get Lallana in.

The 2 most reliable people on twitter plus one good LFC focussed Journo say he's very keen to come but he's not the type to force it.

It'll be Baines-ish. If Saints put their foot down, he won't rock the boat like Baines wouldn't and he'll be going nowhere, so it comes down to FSG and how much they're willing to back their man if he's at the top of his list.

We need a cm to replace Gerrard. One that is dynamic and mobile like Henderson but with vision and drive. Like Shelvey on sedatives.

From what I've seen Lallana has played mostly as a 10 so I don't know if he could adapt to that position. He's a good player and I'd love to see him with Barkley and Henderson at Liverpool (not happening).

If he were to come I'd feel a bit sad for
Southampton but they have a good academy and their future is bright, so they could rebound. If he stays there though he could become their Gerrard which is commendable and understandable.

Liverpool would have no chance of getting him at those prices. For a start Saints signed him aged 12 from Bournemouth and there is a 25% sell on clause, so if Liverpool bid £12m, it effectively becomes £9m! Even a bid of £20m as reported in the Sun only leaves Saints with £15m. Saints would struggle to get a replacement that fills the void left by his departure for £9m to £15m, so where is their incentive to sell at such a low figure?

If Liverpool had a player that...

    - was their captain
    - English
    - aged 25
    - likely to have a good chance of starting for England in the World Cup
    - voted in the PFA team of the year
    - under contract until 2018

Would you be happy if they accepted a bid of effectively £9m to £15m once 25% goes to Bournemouth?

Saints don't need to sell for financial reasons, even if he did want to leave he is unlikely to rock the boat too much as he has a connection and love for the club and so it puts Saints in a strong position. Liverpool would need to put in a huge bid to get him.

of course not, but you are looking at it from the opposite end to us to be fair.

personally i hope you can manage to keep all your players and manager and i think you have a good chance of pushing for Europa next season with this team, like the way you try and play.

if you are buying you want as cheap as possible, if you are selling you want as much as possible.

we had a sort of similar problem with the sale of Ince ie we got some of the sale value, which is probably why not many was interested as Blackpool didn't end up with it all.

who are the Southampton of La Liga? And I wonder how much their version of lallana costs, because I think we will be absolutely ripped off if this deal happens. It will not be less than £20million. Personally I feel £15million max is what we should be going for for him. He's 26 and shines in a mid-table team, so what? Adam looked damn good when he was at Blackpool

And waste a large amount of our budget on him. We could and should spend a little more and attempt to get a Barkley or someone of a much higher level abroad.

Liverpool have submitted a £20m offer for Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana and hope to complete the signing of the England international before next month’s World Cup finals get underway.

According to The Sun, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is a keen admirer of the 25-year-old, who was nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award last month. Lallana has been one of the Premier League’s outstanding performers this season and is a dead-cert to be selected for England’s 23-man World Cup squad on Monday.

But, before Lallana flies out to Brazil with the rest of the England squad, Rodgers hopes to make him a Liverpool player by thrashing out a deal before next moth’s showpiece international tournament kicks off.

Manchester United, however, may have something to say about that. The Red Devils have been strongly linked with Lallana, and his Southampton teammate Luke Shaw, and may respond following news of Liverpool’s formal bid.

Rodgers hopes that Liverpool have the upper-hand over the Red Devils after securing a place in next season’s Champions League. The Reds could win the Premier League title on Sunday - but will be competing in Europe’s premier club competition next season regardless of this weekend’s outcome.

One potential reason why Lallana could turn down a move to Anfield is the fact he is a boyhood Everton fan. It remains to be seen, meanwhile, whether the man expected to become Manchester United’s next manager - Dutch coach Louis van Gaal - would be keen to have Lallana as part of his new squad next season.

We will not accept £20 mill for Lallana. If he goes it will be for a massive sum.

If we go for anyone from Southampton I would prefer Lovren. Good centre back and an organiser, which is what we need after Carra left. Lallana is to much like what we have and has had one good season. Where has he been for the past 8 yrs, why were no clubs chasing him when he was younger and cheaper if the potential was always there. Another Charlie Adam purchase and a waste of limited funds.

Shaw would be another good buy, but will go to Chelsea at some ridiculous price.

You both comparing him to Charlie Adam is laughable tbh. So is dismissing him as merely "shining for a mid-table team". He has shone both for England (albeit briefly so far) but has a good chance of starting for them at the World Cup, plus is also is one of the stand out players in his position in the Premier League this season.

Lallana has a good chance of starting for England at the World Cup, was in the PFA team of the year and is under contract until 2018. Saints don't need the money, so that puts them in a strong position.

If Liverpool bid as you suggest £15m, Saints would only get £11.25m. Where is the incentive to sell their captain and talisman for that when they don't need the money?

Saints have spent £73m on players since returning to the Premier League, they will spend money regardless of player sales. So why sell their star player for what effectively becomes £11.25m? Saints have signed 3 players in the last 2 years for more than that themselves without needing to sell players to fund it!

  17. This transfer won't happen. He won't leave Saints unless he forces it through (he won't) or Saints get relegated (obviously not looking likely anytime soon)

Exactly and that's why I hope the transfer doesn't happen, as it benefits both teams. I don't mean to talk down about Southampton and I think Lallana is a very good player, but he isn't what we need and I think there are better targets out there of Champions League quality.

i heard dif to that, but never believe what you read in the press i guess <laugh>

good that you don't need to sell if true, i would like to see a decent team in the prem manage to keep their players and build on it for a change, sadly a lot of clubs need the money more and more now days.

The latter part of that is wrong, Lallana is easily Champions League quality as you'll see for yourself at the World Cup and as his peers in the Premier League did by voting him in the PFA Premier League team of the year.

Lallana vs Coutinho in 2013/14 Premier League season

    Lallana has...

    - more goals
    - higher pass accuracy
    - more aerial duels won
    - more interceptions per game
    - blocks more shots per game
    - more dribbles per game
    - more crosses per game

Liverpool should be concentrating on sorting out their defence (which has conceded more goals than Saints) first rather than their attack that has scored over 100 goals.
