Striker Jamie Cureton says he would relish the opportunity to be part of Bristol Rovers' bid to return to the Football League at the first time of asking. Cureton, 38, was released by Cheltenham Town earlier today, but is keen to extend a career that has taken in almost 600 senior games. Almost 200 of those were played for Rovers between 1996 and 2000 and Cureton said: "I have not spoken to Bristol Rovers and I am absolutely gutted they went down this season. "If I was to drop out of the League, it would probably be for Rovers. It would be a hell of an achievement to score the goals to get them back into the Football League if it came off and it would obviously be great to be a part of that. "Ideally I'd like to stay in the Football League, but it has to be the right club, which suits my style of play. Teams will see the best of me when they are attacking a lot and I won't sign for a club for the sake of it. "I will sit tight and see what options I get, but I'd like to get it sorted, go on holiday and know where I am going to be next season."
I say sign him up now he can score the goals and we need his experience no good signing all Salisbury's players that's just negative in my view
phillips has retired due to age. jason roberts retired due to injury. i think they both could do a great job at this level. cureton is a tough call for me. 1 minute i want him next minute i think we should move on. harrold will be expecting to start games. doubt he will be happy to warm the bench. brunt may need the bench to begin with after missing a full season. can cureton play every week? if not then maybe look else where.
short term deal to end of the season. not offered a new deal. kept getting injured in his short time with us.
Only thing against Cureton is his age there's a lot of younger strikers out there. A short term contract or pay as you play contract I know the gas would love him back
Only way to take Cureton back would be pay as you play and goal bonus and bonus if promotion happens otherwise no thank you......Next!
Damn right. We've been the comfy retirement home for elderly/crocked players for far too long and that's part of the reason we are where we are. DC needs to sign a bit of quality, some pace, and above all players on the up - not those winding down.
I wouldn't mind having him back but it just shows that the club has no contacts beyond former players which is not very good
As DC says, we need to start using the loan system more effectively - getting hungry young players from Championship/Premier League teams on season-long loans. Daggers, Wimbledon and others all had them last season and we didn't.
Experience is essential in certain games and at certain times. He would get my blessing, if the deal is right of course
Bringing in hungry young prem / champ players for a season loan is all well and good provided you have good experience that works with them and helps them out. We don't have that,,,,well yet!
im still have mixed feelings on this. i dont normally contradict myself but this subject will most likely see me contradict myself. today im thinking yes if the deal is right then get him on board. his age and experience will benefits any youngster at the club like lucas and brunt and any new strikers. also he still is a bit nippy too apparently. and i think he will be very hungry and motivated and up for the challenge of wanted us back up. tomorrow i will say no too old and we must move on. he rejected our offer last summer for cheltenham so sod him! i just dont know
This is what the Prem clubs should do instead of all that Team B nonsense the Conference is a competitive league it would I think also toughen them up a bit nothing like a trip to Bognor Regis Town on a freezing cold Tuesday evening in November in the FA Trophy
and to add more to this, i would imagine prem clubs and championship clubs would see us as 1 of the favourites to go up and they may want their youngster apart of a winning team which will give their players a big confidence boost.
