sorry qpr1976 but if he did this then you cannot really expect us English to support him so I hope he loses as well mate(sorry)
I've no love of Wimbledon - it just means my local streets are full of tarquins and jacintas - but every year I am amused by what Murray was supposed to have said in 2006 - as it gets embellished each year. I see it now has Murray parading in a Croatia top! As an aside I never see posts from WelshRanger or CardiffHoop from the old BBC 606, and we can all guess why. I see we're now making a concerted effort to piss off our Scottish fans. We have a few supporters living in Norfolk - can we pick on them next? I'll go first - I'm surprised anyone in Norfolk has time to chat on here, surely you're all too busy shagging your sisters?
As a born-and-bred Londoner, and a staunch Englishman (sadly in every definition of the word 'staunch') - I want him to win. Anyone who abuses him as a Scot and supposedly 'anti-english' is just doing the same thing - you're being 'anti-Scot', and as I said before, hypocrisy is a sad state to be in. Regarding the comment about the english team, he said "I support Scotland, and whoever's playing England" with a smile on his face. The same as we do about Chelsea, Man Utd, Germany, France, The Aussies at Cricket and Rugby, etc. etc. He's no less British than anyone here - and no less proud of the part of the Union he hails from than I am. Andy Murray winning Wimbledon would be a brilliant thing, and the best thing that could happen for tennis in this country.
Cheers West London Willy, a sensible and reasonable post. I don't mind anyone hating Murray at all, I just hate the anti Sottish remarks. If any those posters had been in a scotmans shoes over the past 40 years you would have a better understanding. Especially someone like me that has lived in London since '74 and watched the R's since then. I've had to put up with sooooo many comments over the years from Englishmen, some of it funny some of it a real pain in the ass. Comments like "England have lost the world cup more times than Scotland have won it" that was quite funny.. it was to do with when the cup was lost in '66 then found by the dog "pickles". Other comments from stupid people that forget that Scotland is a small country of 5M people, 10% of England's population. Lastly for a small nation we have produced many talents in football including a few that played for the R's. I have been to watch England play when QPR's players when in the team, I was even in the Scotland end at Wembley in '75 when Gerry Francis England's captain scored twice in a 5-1 win, each time he scored I jumped up and had to stop myself from cheering !!
I see the revisionist history mob are out in force again. The comment about "whoever Engalnd are playing" was said as a direct response to a playful jibe from Tim Henman. The stuff about him wearing a Croatia top is pure fantasy. I wonlt mind if he wns but would prefer federer to win it this year as some bloke wrote out a few bets on his death bed abpout 8 years ago and one of them was for Federer to win Wimbledon 7 times by the year 2013. If that happens oxfam stand to get £300,000 from the bookies - being a hopelessly sentimental old fool I would love to see that happen.
hes got no chance..and i remember him saying he would support whoever played against England..ginger plum!
Who cares if he is a sweaty, good luck to him. I only hope that if he does win he sounds a bit more enthusiastic, what a miserable sod! Cheer up mate, you are worth a fortune and must be beating the fannarge away with a whiffy stick. Smile!!
Swiss mum, born here and regard myself as a liberal leftish Brit. Got a brilliant Irish daughter-in-law with folks in Limmerick and spent a fair bit of time with a mate in Inverness. Have great affection for these islands and for each of our Celtic cousins (regardless of whether that's mutual or not at any one time). Federer's a hero for me but I'm aching to see a Brit or Irish player win Wimbledon. Murray may well be a twat at times but don't forget he's no worse that Taarabt who we all backed to the hilt last year... and Murray's got far better reason than Scottish heritage to be a bit dour. He and his big brother were at Dunblane Primary at the time of that horrendous mass killing. He lost 17 mates and teachers that day with many more maimed and injured. Equally awful perhaps, is the fact that he attended the club run by the mass murderer, Thomas Hamilton. Dour and a bit pro-Scottish? So friggin' what? Andy's an absolute credit to human resilience. Come on Andy! Backing you all the way son!!
