I think he's right ......... this horrible season could now be the kick up the arse the club has needed for years. The club has been lucky that the support has stuck with them and, tbh, out attendances & and away followings have been incredible. The club have definitely been helped by the patience and loyalty of the supporters. Now that should be rewarded by the club backing the manager and continuing his good work. If the last 4 results had been the first 4 of the season the ground would be full and rocking every week. http://talksport.com/football/exclu...-great-escape-14050489815#Hedp2oeOvsm8Ybo6.99
I have been thinking along the same lines myself...We have a young manager who will have learned an awful lot this season, so what we need now is some continuity and stability...I believe that Gus could be the man to take us forward..
What is incredible is that you're on here 365 days a year, do you never get a day off Seriously, I doubt there are more than a handful of clubs that would hold their support after the season and decade we've had. It is incredible that we've averaged 40,000+ despite the club being hopeless in the first few months, the players revolt, the 1 point for ages, the sacking of a new manager, the poor start for the replacement, the demoralising defeats at places like Norwich, the seemingly endless home defeats by the bottom clubs. We'll have a full ground on Wednesday and that's incredible in my book.
Riviera? Your home support in most games this season has been somewhat "edgy". Your away support recently has dwindled rapidly lately. For Chelsea Spurs and Liverpool, you turnout was way below what you'd expect. Don't call your support "incredible". You're beginning to sound like Smug.
Certainly could be. If we get the last point we need then it's one of the most memorable and enjoyable seasons in my memory. If Poyet can keep us up then who knows what hecan.ddo in a season of "his way"
Yeah, I logged in as Riviera to take the piss out of Albert's **** Crack and it won't go back to Smug now. I'll sort it when I can be bothered. The support at Chelsea Spurs and Liverpool was very good as you'll know from following this board. The turnout wasn't massive but Chelsea has never been good because of the ludicrous ticket prices, plus it was live on TV. I'd say that any club, whoever it may be, is incredible considering how dreadful things have been. You can't argue with 40,000+ average for a bottom club that only just scraped survival last season.
If we stay up, I think we are for a "Magic carpet ride" next season. Hold onto your hats ladies and gentleman.
When you take into account that we have only finished in the top half of the top league twice in the last 55 years or so, and have never qualified for Europe via our league position, then we are quite unique in our continued level of support..
Our support is far from incredible lads! Yeah we have about the 6th or 7th highest average attendance but our vocal support is one of the worst in the league at home. Not nice to say that but it's a fact.
So Mr Hat,thanks to smug's help in a thread last week i noticed you don't attend your home matches, now that does not surprise me being a durham mag but for f*** sake stop bitching about crowds when you can't be bothered to attend yourself
I've said many times before mate, the quantity of your home support, and most away games, has been very good. Very rarely I have a bad word to say about it.
It depends in which context you mean ........ I was obviously referring to the numbers. "The club has been lucky that the support has stuck with them and, tbh, out attendances & and away followings have been incredible." As far as vocal support in concerned I think you have to put that into context as well. The lack of noise at other grounds is unreal ......... Chelsea, Old Trafford, Man City etc are deathly for large parts of the game. I thought our noise, from the very start, against Cardiff was excellent. Let's be honest, what have the players given the poor homes fans to cheer about this season?
Nothing wrong with our attendances, it's to be admired the **** we've been through since the Reidy days. It's the lack of vocal support which grates on me, I appreciate the players haven't give us much to shout about, neither have Crystal Palace but their support had been loud and proud. I know we have the potential to do it, I can remember when the stadium first opened and they was Mexican waves going around the stadium and we always had good vocal support.
I see your point and agree to some extent, we take tickets for anywhere we can get them so end up in various areas. We often get stares and 'eye rolling' when we scream & shout and sing. Having said that, we ended up in the concourse against Cardiff and the noise was pretty good. You have to remember Palace came up on the crest of a wave and this is a Premier League novelty for many of them. We had a dreadful season, last time, on top of more with little excitement. The Palace support isn't even all that tbh, a few hundred showing off while the majority sit on their hands. The TV cameras always make a big difference when they're on live I've noticed.
Onwards and upwards from the moment survival is guaranteed, exciting times ahead me thinks Right infrastructure, right man in charge, just need ellis to flex his financial muscles
I'd imagine he's in it for the excitement, pride and success ....... hopefully Wembley will have given him a taste of all that. Trundling along the bottom can't be any more interesting for him than it is for us.
The rumour about Ellis Short in discussion with Red Bull is starting to get stronger. Apparently he's pally with the boys of Red Bull....
