Terrible decision from the board. I have not felt so bad for the following season in years, totally lacks foresight and ambition. If we were looking for someone to coach the kids football team we couldnt use Monk because he has not completed any coaching badges. Well it was good while it lasted.
Why? Opinions are just that. Opinions. Yours has no more value than mine or anyone else's. See that box? Get back in it.
Which are you? or
It's not the news that it seems most of us wanted is it? To be honest, I don't even want to think about it anymore - it just makes me miserable - the whole season has. I think I've got used to having good seasons for the last decade, so this disappointment is a bit of a shock to the system. I just want to wait and see where we are come the start of the season in terms of who is playing for us.....
Get on message. Haven't you been drinking the Kool Aid? The sky's falling and the world's going to end any minute.
Surely if the last 10 years have taught us anything, it's that the Swansea City Board and Huw Jenkins know what they're doing, far more than any of us fans on the outside. Support the club! Not your own petty hate agendas.
The Guardian "The reality, though, is that Swansea's slump has been prolonged and can be traced back to the famous victory over Bradford at Wembley. Since then Swansea have won eight, drawn nine and lost 18 of 35 Premier League matches, picking up only 33 points. It has, in other words, been relegation form for the best part of 12 months. Eventually Jenkins decided he had seen enough." BBC "Under Brendan Rodgers and then Laudrup, Swansea have had two excellent seasons in the Premier League, capped by finishing ninth and winning the Capital One Cup last year. But since winning that trophy 12 months ago, Swansea have only won eight of 35 Premier League games, and lost 18. That is relegation form." Football.co.uk It is an incredible fall from grace for Laudrup, who was linked with the vacant manager’s post at Real Madrid and Chelsea last summer, but it is a parting of the ways that has been coming, and one Swansea had to make. Since beating Bradford 5-0 to lift the League cup last spring, Swansea has won just eight Premier League games since. That is relegation form and the Swans currently sit just two points above the bottom three. Laudrup’s team have taken just one win from ten games and have slowly and discreetly been sucked into a real dog fight to preserve their Premier League status. Reuters Swansea City have sacked their Danish manager Michael Laudrup with the Welsh club having dropped into a Premier League relegation battle after a dramatic slump in form that has left them two points above the drop zone. I can do this all day, buts let see your quotes from reputable sources like roofjack, Sterio et. al
I missed that one, where has anyone posted that they hate Monk or the Board ?, if they have then they should be ashamed of themselves, to think that free thinking is now longer allowed and that they should hold a differing point of view .
Agree with Boundy. Why is it that when fans express concern about the future of the Club or the worrying inadequacies of our new Manager they are accused of being disloyal? Whatever your view we all have the Swans at heart but we disagree about the way forward. So what? But it's human nature to question things in life, or at least it should be. Sorry but it's not in my nature to say "Jenkins and the Board have been brilliant for 10 years so we should just have faith in them". If that's your feeling then good on you, but I think some of the decisions being made in recent times have been very worrying and this is the latest. We have just appointed a rookie with zero experience and with zero contacts as Manager of the Club we all love. If that doesn't concern you then you must be relying on the blind faith you speak of and I can't do that. But get this straight - it doesn't make me any less of a Swans fan!
I've supported this club for over 40 years through good times and bad, been through far worse positions (Petty). Hate is a strong word, I dont hate Monk, but see him as a disruptive influence on the club along with Ashleigh Williams. Monk has never been more than very average in his playing career and has not even bothered to complete his coaching badges, something that practically all professionals who want a career in coaching do before they end their playing careers. Monk has alienated a large group of players before the end of the season and we will probably lose more as big clubs come in for some. I do not believe that this guy has the ability or contacts to build a team. I also believe that Jenkins will feel able to insert players he wants with Monk in charge, thats something he has form for. As for bringing in someone with experience as a no2, I do not think Monk would pay any attention to them as he has a false (imho) opinion of his own ability. Its very hard to stay positive after witnessing the performance yesterday compounded by listening to the tripe spoken by Monk later. This appointment could have dire consequences for years to come, regardless I'll still be there. Win lose or draw STID.
That's "countless" is it? And ALL who didn't support Swansea? You have selected titbits that suit your argument mainly from newspapers etc whose opinions are no better than ours. Obviously you are a Monk supporter and if you think that he's the best choice of manager for this club it's an opinion you're entitled to. I happen to disagree and so do most of the posters on this board it seems. When you consider the number of available coaches in Europe who have a TRACK RECORD, who are EXPERIENCED, who are QUALIFIED, who have CONTACTS, who are RESPECTED FOR THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS, who would not have back-stabbed themselves into the position, who would not have alienated a number of players in the squad, I find it almost defies belief that we have appointed Monk. Can anyone in their right mind honestly think that he is the BEST option available to us? Honestly? This is a cheap appointment made by a board who do not have the guts, the character, the foresight, the ambition or the knowledge to take us on at THIS LEVEL. This is a cosy option that they feel comfortable with, a "yes-sir-no-sir-three-bags-full-sir" manager, who will do what he's told, when he's told and how he's told. Make no mistake, Monk will be a puppet. Oh, he'll train the team but the managerial decisions will come from above, God help us. As for those continual bleats I read about how well the board have done for us in the past, I freely acknowledge what they did - "did" being the operative tense. "Did" means the past. What should concern us is the present and the future and, for me, the future is looking pretty bleak. I don't think that the board possesses the acumen, the experience or the knowledge to take us on at this level and Monk's appointment confirms it for me. As for the football side of things, it's true we escaped relegation but our performances have been pretty awful for the most part culminating in yet another absolutely woeful display yesterday. For me, Monk has NOT made a difference to our performances, the odd game apart, and carrying that form into next season will see us as front runners for relegation from the word go. Just think what Jenkins is risking by trying to promote his, "aren't I a clever boy by doing it on the cheap" image. Financial implications apart, how mortifying would it be for we the fans to see Cardiff City passing us on the way up as we go down? It could happen and on local radio yesterday evening, a Cardiff fan looking for some consolation, said that the only silver lining was the prospect that we might appoint Monk and follow them down. Says it all.
Runny bullshit you say..... ML up until his sacking picked up 24 points in 24 games. = 1 point per game, = 38 points as a basic look, which IS NOT RELEGATION FORM!!!! = FACT Monks fixture list in the last 13 Cardiff (H) Stoke (A) Liverpool (A) Palace (H) Albion (H) Everton (A) Arsenal (A) Norwich (H) Hull (A) Chelsea (H) Newcastle (A) Villa (H) Southampton (H) In those 13, Monk picked up 15 points, the 7 home games included 5 bottom half clubs In those 13 reverse fixtures, ML had picked up 14 points, the 6 home games included 2 bottom half clubs (lets note it would have been more had we not been robbed of the 3 points v stoke in the dying minutes of the game) So don't spout the **** that Monk saved us lol. Monk with 3 extra home games against lower half opposition, got 1 extra point out of it lol. Think it is you who is far from being on Earth
