Following on from the Alves banana munching story, and UEFA & there 12p fines, couldn't help but notice the NBA's heavy handed, but supremely effective stance on racism.

Can you imagine that dripping tap Platini administering this?

NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been banned for life and will be forced to sell the team, pending a board of governors vote, over racist remarks on a leaked video.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Silver said the NBA concluded the recordings were accurate and that Sterling has been banned for life from the Los Angeles Clippers and the NBA. Sterling is henceforth barred from attending games, practices, team facilities and board of governors meetings. Silver also fined Sterling $2.5 million, the maximum allowed by NBA bylaws, with the funds going to anti-discrimination efforts. Additionally, Silver said he will urge the league's board of governors to exercise its powers and exorcise Sterling as an owner from the NBA. That would require a 3/4 vote, as we learned yesterday. Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported that Sterling will be banned for life.

Silver sounded like a man determined to make sure this ghost never haunts the league again. "I will urge the board of governors to exercise its authority to force a sale of the team and will do everything to ensure it happens," he told reporters.

During the following Q&A session, a reporter asked Silver whether he considered the possibility Donald Sterling could profit off a team he owns while banned from the NBA, in case the Board of Governors votes to keep him. "I fully expect to get the support I need from other NBA owners to remove him," Silver said.

    Have that lad!

The ban is great but the fact is they'll force him to sell and probably find him a buyer meaning he makes a profit of about 550 million dollars without doing owt.

why other countries in europe. Liverpool as a club gave 100% support to there player for giving racial abuse 3 times to an apponent. This in my veiw makes the whole club racist. Perhaps Donald Sterling could buy into Liverpool perfect fit.

That can't be helped, Disco. Not against the law to be a racist moron. Still, he's been shamed as much as a man can be, the coverage here has been brutal.

This was dealt with immediately and severely. All that could be done.

A few things have become clear as the story emerges. He is guilty as charged. It was him on the recordings. He has held these beliefs, and expressed them privately, over the past 30 years of ownership. His girlfriend set him up. The tapes are almost painful to listen to. It's as if she reading the questions from a script, and he takes the bait...hook, line and sinker. Stupid ****er. And she is the lowest kind of person.

Not certain what you're arguing for?

He can, and did, say whatever he liked. But the NBA has a constitution (true), he violated it, and the League took action.

It has been a great day here because of the way this situation was handled. Everyone happy. A piece of **** got put in his place, quickly and without remorse. What is not being reported, is that the players, who are in the midst of the first round of playoffs, we're going to boycott the games if he wasn't removed from the League. Don't blame them, and it's worth noting the League is 75 - 80 percent black.

More of an observation as to how self righteous many Americans can be when it suits them.
On a local level they persecute minorities everyday but it seems that when it involves someone of prominence they'll jump on the bandwagon and hang them out to dry looking for their 15 minutes.
