http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27122370 Liverpool will hand manager Brendan Rodgers a significant summer transfer kitty as the club seek to build on qualification for the Champions League. The Reds, favourites to win Premier League, believe Europe's elite competition will help them attract top talent and are willing to pay for it. "It will cost what it costs when we decide who the manager wants to buy," said managing director Ian Ayre. "It has always been tougher in the transfer market when you are not competing at the highest level," said Ayre. "We have always been fortunate to be able to bring great players here despite that, but there is no question it opens up a few doors for us and makes it a little bit easier. "There is no question we always expected that the squad we need for next season will be very different to the squad that we have needed for this year when we were not playing in Europe." It'll be interesting to see what Brendan does with a significant budget in his hands, and whether he will silence some of the critics. But look at the way the Liverpool board is proactive in supporting their manager and team. They know that Liverpool do not have the squad to challenge on both ends, so are offering a sizable budget to him. I'm expecting at least as much or more of a budget offered to Wenger, that Brendan will be getting, if he's still here.
Sky Sports reported a budget of £60m for Liverpool. That's about enough to get 2 very good players in. Plus I think Arsenal and Liverpool would be targeting different players, you will go for attackers and Liverpool more defenders and CM.
That is a nice healthy budget and buying 2 to 3 top class players will greatly improve your squad. I can see an equivalent budget for us but whether we spend it is another matter. I hope Ozil wasn't a one off.
It's a damn shame that 16 years in the champions league the only player of world class class we bought is Ozil sometime you have to wonder if we really have inspirations of winning it because so far being in it I haven't seen no evidence of it. People will say we had some of the World Cup winning French squad but by damn we were lucky even Henry use to say we need to buy different calibre of players to the team to make it better, wait to think about it most of our damn players are alway begging for the club to buy champions league quality players or world class players!
What are you talking about? Henry, Pires, Vieira, Overmars, Ljungburg, Nasri, Van Persie, Sagna, Koscielney, Ramsey, Carzorla etc.. Were all bought?! Just because they weren't big money transfers doesn't change the fact they were all World Class squad additions. The fact we didn't pay big money or they weren't huge names actually makes them better more accomplished transfers.
Of that list, only Pires and Overmars were remotely close to being considered world class when you signed them, and that's putting the world class term very loosely. They all became top top players but they weren't when you signed them. IMO, that;s the right way to sign players too. You want them at your club during their best years, not because of their reputation
Didnt liverpool record a 200 million loss?? They will have to sell Suarez to comply with FFP so your 60 mill budget will have to include a new striker....
The £60m loss was payment to a loan company who H&G used to fund the stadium rebuild. LFC cleared the debt and then received an interest free loan from FSG to cover the expense. This was a one off transaction and falls within the rules of FFP (John W. Henry has said that he'd be confident that even with the loss on the books we'd pass FFP as we had all the paperwork to prove this) Now we're in the Champions League + the bumper TV deal + No spending last jan + fees coming in from Reina & Assiadi + A crazy amount of commercial deals that have been signed £60m doesn't seem to be too bad an estimate for our transfer kitty without selling Luis
