We said all season that we only really lacked goals, but it's too easy now to say 'we had Connor'.

Connor looked incapable, out of his depth and from what we'd seen and heard, he clearly did have attitude issues.

He's gone to Wednesday, done superbly, the fans have loved him, he's appreciated that and it's given him a kick up the arse.

I'm delighted we have gained from this, I'm delighted Connor is showing what he can do, I'm not gonna lie I'm stunned at the turnaround in the lad, where he was once cumbersome, he is using his weight to make that an advantage, buying time and creating space, holding the ball for runners.

It's like a new, top drawer signing, the lad has the number 10 shirt, and he can say he deserves it, he's taken his time, but **** me at the minute I wouldn't swap him for Benzema.

If he does a good pre-season, we sign a couple of decent CM's, and we get the balance between AJ and the other side, the lad could be a ****ing weapon, and even more, he could be a first choice England player within a year.

Still big ifs, buts, maybe's, but for the first time it's there for him, he can be a ****ing major star.

I think he'll do it as well, and I tell you what, I thought he was a write off before he went Wednesday.

Can we send them a few more?

Sent Wickham got back Higuain, maybe if we send Jozy we can get back Woody from Toy Story. an equal improvement.

I'd like to express my disgust at yet another Connor/Jozy Comparison thread. Don't mean to sound a **** but it's boring as **** and a bit disrespectful to both Connor and Jozy. Why no mention of Fletch? Some folk just can't resist the opportunity to stick the knife into our scapegoat and it speaks volumes of certain posters mentality that they have to revisit this again and again and again. There's is no reason to even mention Jozy's name in the same sentence as Wickham after that wonderful football match. There's a proper Wickham thread already been done and it doesn't mention Jozy, It manages to complement and show appreciation for Connor and it's not at the expense of any other Sunderland player, proper respectful thread that is. I'm going to one star this thread as it's pathetic imo. No ****ing respect at all. Bag of ****e in fact.

Now I've had a bit too much to drink today and I've probably crossed the line here so I'm off to bed.

To be fair mate, I've defended Jozy more than most.

The thread was about the goals, or previous lack of, and therefore Jozy was absolutely relevant to it.

EDIT, I hadn't actually read the original post properly so fair one...

When MON came he played James McClean who was a revelation for that season. A player we'd signed but wasn't getting any games.

It looks like Gus has found his McClean to get us out of the **** in this season.

Some people just love to find targets to offload their issues on ........... condemning players as '****e' is easy and all too common.

The differance is confidence and support. Pre man city wickham looked a sunday league player, goals breed confidence. Hes had one thing that altidore hasnt been given though and thats support, on and off the field.

Bollocks - Altidore had massive support at the start of the season. He was given opportunities to score and fluffed his lines every time. To say Wickham, whos has scored quite freely at Championship level, was Sunday League is a little bit of a joke really parker. It's not possible to be Sunday league and score goals and be highly thought of in the Championship.

Wickham started the Man City game with confidence - He ran at people with the ball, he moved people about the pitch and he ran when we broke to ensure he got the chance for his second.

Against Chelsea Altidore was given the ball and through on goal - he didn't dare shoot so how could he ever score? It is pointless playing football if you are going to be scared of a little criticism for ****ing it up - Look at Gerrard yesterday - massive **** up in arguably their biggest league game for decades - similar to Cattermole against Villa for us - cost them the game. He'll shake it off and get on with it.

If Wickham had played as many games as Altidore I reckon he'd have over 10 goals this season. Just my opinion though

I meant in the games he's played for us before man city hes looked amateur. He too had only 1 league goal I believe. Wickham got a few goals on loan in the championship, altidore got 30 last seaaon. Both at different clubs.

One thing I've noticed, and this could be a case of 'looking for something that was always there', is that Wickham has NOT be being playing the static central striker position. Unlike other strikers we have, Wickham has been playing all over, with other players filling in when needed, and this has confused a few of the defensive players set up to contain him. Between him, Borini and (to a lesser extent) AJ drifting about, and the likes of Jack and Alonso/Vergini pushing up, the opposition are finding it difficult to read what was once a static formation.

    Excellent post mate <ok>

The opposition are all over the place trying to work out where Wickham will pop up next.

For the 2nd goal he was in the 'centre forward' position but Mannone dropped the ball short and Colback won the flick on.

It totally threw out Cala who then gave the penalty and was sent off <ok>

Fella, Really sorry about my tone last night, my point remains but it was far to aggressive and frankly rude. Been on the drink all day then ran out, I was sobering rapidly and my hang over was kicking in which left me in a foul mood. No excuse. Sorry again fella.
