Have you ever met anyone who's granddad supported Tranmere Rovers or Hartlepool ? Stuck behind a car in traffic last week that had Man Utd stickers all over the back window and the sad bastards had even painted out the tiny 'Hull' on their numberplate! Worst Liverpool worshippers in East Hull are the Bandstand chip ship. Huge LFC crest behind the counter alongside a HKR one. Then the saddo who flys a massive Man Utd flag from his back garden on the estate behind the Royal Charter pub.
It Burnt my Retinas to cinders As to the peach glow emanting from the garish sight. But as Reg's thread goes. A middle aged bloke with defining spread & waif gaited bow legged jaunt walked passed me on Osborne St. With a pool shirt- baseball cap (pool) & a scarf on a bloody weekday in Ull. Gobsmackrd.

For 5 minutes I was bleeding behind my lids. Gawdawful.

Out of my mates 4 are United 'supporters', 4 liverpool, 2 arsenal and 1 chelsea Aside from one of the united lot that actually has a season ticket at OT, the rest of them have mostly not been to see a game live.
I live near Bandstand chippy, that huge Liverpool crest pisses me right off, if it wasn't for the chippy across the road being so ****, I wouldn't go near the place. I despise the family connection excuse, my dad's from Stoke-on-Trent and my mum's from Hull, I was born in Hull so I support Hull City. Choosing Stoke would have been an easy way out, Stoke were 2 divisions higher than us at the time I started supporting Hull as well, but why would I support a team miles away when I could support a team on my doorstep? Family is a poor excuse for not supporting you home team.
As you imply, they're not supporters at all. If they only watch through the keyhole that is tv, they're followers or voyeurs.
That's what I tell them. If I watch a game on TV I don't really consider myself to be able to judge the game that well, there is no substitute for a seat on the halfway line.
Exactly, someone on this forum mentioned that awhile ago, they mentioned the difference between "supporter" and "fan" with regards to glory hunters.
I know plenty of people who follow other clubs, in many cases they actually come from those places. But the older you get, the more you realise yo can never be 'mates' with people who have chosen not to support their local club. The litmus paper question to ask them is : Are are you supporting Brazil or Germany in the World Cup,as you've already made it clear you won't be supporting England? Then they may just catch a glimpse of their own utter inoperable ****ishness.
I was in Wembley Tavern before the semi and it was full of people decked out in City colours and when Liverpool scored there third goal a big cheer went up. Me and my mate couldn't help giving them stick.
Loads cheered Lpool's 3rd goal because they were playing the Man City side who dived, cheated and fouled there way to a 2-0 win at our place. That Jesus Navas is the biggest cheat I ever seen in many years of watching the beautiful game.
If only that were true. Cheering on that pillar of honesty and gentlemanly conduct that is Luis Suarez instead, fair play to them.
I think it's more a case of old loyalties coming to the fore for many. To sum up: Liverpool has a fantastic football history, Liverpudlians are a witty sarky and lively bunch but here's the rub, people who 'support' Liverpool and come from elsewhere are some of the biggest ****s you could meet. Hope this helps.
The world famous and bestest sporting public of Anfield are seriously throwing their toys out the pram. Their fans on 606 and Brendan R bleating about Mourinho’s winning tactics. The thing is I seem to recall Liverpool playing like that when they were winning everything. Usually was drab as ****, 1-0 with constant pass backs to the keeper.
Deffo. ****ing hate all this 'I'd love 'em to win for for Stevie G' too. **** Gerrard. Sure I read he smacked that DJ cos he wouldn't play Phil '****' Collins for him.
The thing is though, I almost feel sorry for these people. They'll never, ever experience anything like what we'll experience come May 17th (win or lose). The best they can hope for is sitting in front of the telly watching "their team" win a few games and then having a celebratory ****, before going down to the local and trying to brag to their mates who couldn't give a **** because they're actually going to be at Wembley watching their team in the FA Cup Final. It's just a TV show to them, and they'll never get what supporting a football team is all about, and they'll bring their kids up in a similar mindset and that's kinda sad in a way.
Bollocks. If you're thinking like that then where the **** were you New Year's Day? Clearly nowhere near Anfield. Whinging sods. On a side note, I find it hard to give a **** about any football match not involving City. It's entrrtaining but I can't see me ever "cheering" for another side. Especially not one competing directly with us.
