I liked Chris Powell and I thank him for all he did for us as a Manager and a player. There were some posters on CL that said no other Manager could do better than CP with the current group of players. This has been disproved. CP six League wins in Thirty games, Riga five League wins in thirteen games. Powell's win ratio was one in five. Riga's one in under three. I truly believe if we had continued with Powell in charge we would have been relegated. We are not yet safe with Riga in charge but he has given us a fighting chance.
People say CP never took the blame for failures BUT he never took credit for success always used the word WE .. I personally liked the all in together attitude. The disturbing thing about the interview was that prize prat Danny Murphy . CP has gone now no need to bash him he got us promoted as champions and to 9th position and brought the feel good factor back. Whatever people think he genuinely loves the club which may of contributed to his downfall who knows. But the way people talk of him on here you would think he was like the complete arrogant Tosser Pardew. We have Curbs At the top then Lennie and then Powell . History will not put him up with the other two for achievements But he did us proud and I will always have time for Chris Powell.
Jimmy Seed created this club. He was our Busby or Shankly. He was also stabbed in the back by slimeball owners and the club suffered for thirty years afterwards. Not yet. Give him time. We still have the Second and Third Comings to look forward to (Murphy's Law).
Vol, do you really not have anything else in life but this obsession with Powell? Do us all a favour and move on
Sir Alex met CP shortly after the sacking, said "Feel sorry for you son. Maybe 3 years was long enough", and walked away. What a shrewd observation.
One season would be long enough if you had to work under our present or previous revolting owners. Unfortunately not many people in football have the luxury of Sir Alex' money, and tend to hang on to jobs while they still have them, knowing the end will come soon enough. Most managers' careers end in failure, sometimes humiliation or disgrace (a bit like boxers or politicians). Fergie was one of the few to time his departure right, and go out with a bang. Others depart with a whimper like Curbs, or to a chorus of boos like Revie or Graham. Or slide down the leagues into obscurity until they pop up with a Cup run. "Blimey, is he still managing? I remember when he was going to be the next England manager but one." Average tenure now is one year. I think as recently as two decades ago it was three years. On the Continent it is normal for a coach to sign for a limited term (usually two years) and it to be accepted he will leave at the end of that term, however successful. That works because the players are not "his" players, they are signed by the club, and the club will normally have an established pattern of play all through the age-groups, so the incoming coach has limited scope for re-organization. His job is just to "tweak" the machine to get the best out of it, not design a new machine.
Quite a lot actually, although thanks for asking If you look at the thread, I was reporting back to all on here the contents of an interesting interview that was not yet on the Talksport website.
Haven't you guys got better or bigger things to do that fall out constantly. Fecking hell Chrissy get em all told.
well no actually Glory Somebody has to fight for the club.... the players are more interested in finding new clubs for next season.... so the fans are trying to make up for this by fighting with each other on forums...... this may change over the summer when we know which league we will be in next season........... then again....... it may not
Powell has been on Talksport again this morning. Speaking about last night, he said.. "It was my team that kept them up" Please sod off now Chris.
Yep, just listened to the show. Chris managed six wins in thirty with 'my team'. How many did Jose manage? Minus Kermit and Stephens, too.
it was his team. where were the six from SL? he signed everyone who started. the two forms of the reigns cannot be compared due to factors that are non-comparable. plus, it's my personal opinion that the last few weeks we've seen players "playing for contracts" which has contributed to the upturn. but saying that, Riga and most importantly, the squad have done well to keep us up. great game last night. that starting 11 should have been out first team from sept - we'd comfortably be mid table if it was.
Dis-agree Thurrock. I didn't hear that comment as I only dipped in as CP was co-hosting. However, much, if not everything, depended on the tone and context. it could have been pride! Anyone hear it and give us an unbiased assessment?
