For those of you who didn't see Mauricio's interview on TV, here's what you missed post-match. http://link.brightcove.com/services...e8HIrioPGm42ApchRjoFSGrO3&bctid=3510310069001 Clearly he's had enough of these questions, so Les Reed made his statement and clarified it for the press, and so it continues. It seems that from now on Mauricio isn't going to even talk about it. It did make me chuckle when I saw it live on air, I must admit. Oh and David seemed to find it amusing too. DTLW
Great response. The second question by Ray Stubbs is pathetic, "If a really good offer came in for one of your players, how do you balance what is right and what is wrong?". Modern Journalists.
Pochettino delivers another masterclass in the way to deal with the press, I love the guy. Also David's reaction to the second question is the best I've seen an interpreter get away with without being sacked
I watched it live too, and was guffawing at Mauricio's replies and David's translations. I could sense something was up with the first answer when Mauricio said bueno and David was grinning like a Cheshire Cat and shaking his head.
That clip should be used as a teaching aid in how to take control of an interview. Brilliant stuff, and I sincerely hope that Mauricio's public use of English never improves enough that he can dispense with David Salas's services. The pair of them are football's best double act.
I think that ranks right up there with the "yoghurt sell-by" interview with WGS. I dare say someone with necessary skill could post a link. Over to you, Fran.....
Why not..? OK, it's a badly worded question, but it's perfectly understandable to me. What Stubbs is suggesting is how does Poch balance what may be right for Southampton against what may be right for the player involved. It's another way of asking whether Saints can keep hold of their star players. Personally, I'm glad Poch ignored it. Whatever happened to the idea that no player was bigger than a club..? Stubbs is suggesting that Saints have players who are too good for Saints, and that is disrespectful and complete crap. Star players make a football club better, and Saints have big ambitions. Last time I looked, a Premier League winning team didn't achieve the ambition with journeyman players.
you've done some top quality extrapolating on his muddled question. it's certainly a welcome change from blackmore answering his own questions before he's finished asking them.
Here's a batch of all of Gordon's good ones for Saints:
