Doesn't get the publicity that Hillsborough gets.

    But it's 29 years today.

I didn't know until recently that John Hawley played a major part in rescuing people.

We were at Brentford that day, already promoted and having a jolly in London.

Issues with the vermin en route.

    Successfully dealt with.

And neither does Heysel. Doesn't that tell you everything?

Lawro, Hansen, Fowler, Danny Murphy, Owen, Hamann....never going to be an 'objective' pundit view.

I think the reason Hillsborough gets the most publicity because of the miscarriage of justice.

Ahhh, but I'm pretty sure someone massively f**ked up at Valley Parade that day. All the turnstiles were shut and nobody could open them as hundreds were penned against the locked gates trying to get out. So instead they had to try and get out via the pitch and many perished tragically in the fire. If that had happened to Liverpool we'd be hearing about it every week until someone was held accountable for it and in the meatime they'd refuse to play on said anniversary every year but then if the league threaten to dock points for refusal to play they bleat about that too. The Bradford fans instead choose to grieve with tremendous dignity.

Ive said it before I'll say it again - if Liverpool got to the Champions League final and it clashed with the anniversary of Heysel you can guarntee they'd f**king play.

Bradford City themselves were the major culprits- they swept the rubbish under the wooden mainstand for decades.
Mayeb that's why their fans are more muted in their protestations.

Perhaps, but I think if Liverpool FC were to blame their fans would still wallow. They only time they stay muted is when they're 100% to blame, like Heysel.

Before my time, but a sad, sad tragedy which obviously doesn't get enough recognition from football as a whole.

However, it was 11th May 1985.

    You're right.

I've just seen loads of stuff on Twitter about it. Just presumed it was today.

I'm presuming with it being Bradford's last home game today they had a tribute and somewhere along the line the message got mixed up.

Hopefully there'll be a tribute at the final weekend of the Premier League.

Going from memory here, but wasn't that stand condemned and scheduled for demolition at the end of the season?

Locked gates and impassable turnstiles were the usual thing until 15 minutes from the end at any ground surely? The people who exited onto the pitch were fine.

    They were.

In fact, often until 15 minutes after the game.

    Yes it was.

And that was scheduled to be last ever game for that Victorian stand.

Does anyone remember the FA Cup game versus Watford in early 1988. It may be that time has exaggerated my memory of it, but I remember there being a pretty nasty crush getting out of the ground in the South Stand exit that ran between the South Stand and the main stand. One of two steel gates was locked, from memory, and people were shouting back to get people to stop moving forward.

In pub very near the ground before

Large section of fans removed from seats after a 'scuffle'

    we lost?

girlfriend of the time panicking as she knew I'd gone to football at B****ford ...

Watching on TV later - (heard at the time) no idea how bad it was; still remember seeing people on fire, could have been us....

Should Liverpool deliberately not score in their last 3 games, so as to finish the league season with 96 goals scored?
