With Everton losing today Arse look a shoe in for fourth place.

    Is this a good thing?

For me it is because I think it would be amazing to see us in a European competition to fully show how far we've come since a decade age, but there is the argument that it causes more harm than good with the extra games.

To compete on both fronts we'll definitely need a larger squad than the one we have now.

    Thoughts?

Bit of a double edged sword mate. A lot of us wanted the league cup without Europe (which could not have happened and didn't happen) Simply because our squad wouldn't be able to cut it. You'll have to spend to have the squad, this means big wage bills at a small club(don't take that personally I mean any non top 5 regulars). It's wages, transfer fees, excessive games. It's not ideal, especially with a low turnover and Financial fair play, and if you don't get into Europe the following season you've got an excess of players and wages. It's a very very fine balancing act. I think you'll make it to Europe myself. It will be very interesting to see how you go about it and how you cope.

Hope you get your safety win today lads. <ok>

For me being in Europe can only be a good thing. Staying up, cup final, europe will give us extra exposure, we'll be able to attract better players and i reckon it may stop mr allam from challenging the name change decision.

Either way, cracking season! Just need to win today now.

Definitely a good thing, it goes without saying, bit of a stupid question really. Who wouldn't want to see their club competing in continental competition?

Of course it is, I remember my first match in 1989 and following the teams through the 90s, I never thought we would ever see europe and now we are more than likely going to be there. God yes, if we go down we'll come back up again at some stage this might be the one chance we get, plenty of years of being a city supporter in front of us

It brings problems but honestly when are Hull going to get another chance to play European football in the near future? Can only be a good thing surely

Problem is that it's isn't really glamorous at all until the knock out stage and the games you have to play to get there is a disgrace. Honestly, the format is **** and designed to help the big clubs. A good competition going down the pan. It's shocking what the average team has to endure before they can get the romance of the competition.

I mean, and 2nd qualifying round on a Tuesday night at MSK Zilina doesn't sound glamorous, it sounds like a nightmare when you have league games and the league cup to play in also.

Nice position to be in no doubt and enjoy it. But the format sucks arse and won't suit you.

The earliest an English club can go in is the 3rd qualifying round which is in July and I believe the playoff round is just before the season starts. Either way it's not that big a demand on the players, leagues one and two have to contend with worse every season with the league (including 8 extra league games), league cup, FA cup (where they enter in earlier rounds than Premier League clubs) and the Johnstones Paint Trophy.

Haven't we done this to death?

Personally I couldn't give 2 ****s about the impact the extra games might have - a European campaign is something that will stick in the memory forever. Finishing 4th bottom again won't.

I'll be happy if we have a decent euro run and get relegated with zero points.

    Rather just win the cup.

If we do end up in Europe. I'd hope we get someone worth playing- Dutch or Belgian team. So the fans can get there & see it. No ****e Siberian team please.

We haven't got the team for both the league & Europe, so getting knocked out early wouldn't bother me.

If the qualifying rounds are played in July, then we can count them as pre season friendlies. I wouldn't mind going to watch City away in Israel or Finland or wherever. Somewhere different to visit!

I'd heard that if we win the FA cup don't we go directly into the group stages. If we lose and Arsenal finish 4th then we would be in the qualifying rounds

    Correct

Also yes, regardless of who we drew, if I had the money I'd love to go to wherever to watch City in Europe.

    It's fantastic surely.
When I was a kid listening to football on radio 2 midweek with the Cup Winners cup and UEFA cup matches City in Europe was an impossible dream.
Now it's almost here and not to want it is just daft talk.
    BRING IT ON !!!!!!!

Aya righto mate, they'll barely brake sweat. <laugh>

Swansea have played 52 games this season so far mate, that's with going out of the league cup 3rd round, fa cup 5th round and last 32 of Europe and look how it's effected them and they hardly excelled in any competition they've played in. You've played 8 games less and you can't say the fa cup run hasn't effected you as you went from comfortable mid table and cutting it fine. Walk in the park though eh. You underestimate the competition's impact though by all means <ok>

Means playing Thursdays in Europe with all the Premier League games switched to Sundays. Would prefer the old system with straight K/O home and away but if we land in a decent group with a big name then we can look forward to an great night at the KC. Anyone know of big names who have already qualified for an UEFA spot?

Inter Milian, FC Seville, FC Twente, Real Sociedad, Villareal, Galatasaray all possibilities who sit in and very closely to Europa league spots
