Every player has their price under Ashley. And it's usually not that high either

C'mon, would you be surprised if we started next season without Coloccini? He's a big earner, not in contract talks and would get a decent fee

I wouldn't be surprised. But I would be surprised if the only source in the country which reported Serville signing one of Newcastles biggest earners was just this site..

Business wise, at 7m we'd have think very carefully about accepting that...If we could bring in a credible replacement I'd say (sadly) we should let him go...He's been class for 2 seasons, but he's 30, and his wages and fee could free up 14m+ for a replacement!

NUFC clearance sale! SportsDirect style fire sale in progress!

C'mon. It's all a lot of crap instigated by the Barton text that there was to be an exodus and now every journo can take a player's name and say they are leaving.

Just from Sky Sports/ Chron mind -

    Speculation:
A boost for Newcastle United and the Evening Chronicle reports that defender Fabricio Coloccini has told friends he is '99 per cent' to stay at St James' Park next season.

  16. We shouldn't sell him at all, but if we are going to sell him, we need to make sure we have a replacement lined up first, and we better not just buy a mediocre, out of favour CB from another club to do so.

This is exactly what we said we shouldn't do. Carroll, Nolan, Barton, Jonas, Enrique and Coloccini could all have gone within the first 1/2 seasons back up. Great!

We're ripping away the heart, and it could show in our performances.

    £35Million?

I think £4.5M for Nolan wasn't bad money either in all honesty.

  18. Why have we all revolutionized our ideas to think that it's as simple as buying a replacement for a player? Why don't we consider the heart in the team?

Coloccini is a ****ing epic CB, so what if he's 30? That does not mean he's crock or going to be soon. Players can still go on into their late 30's. When he's running out of contract, why not ask him if he wants to take a pay cut to 50k?

If he does, then keep him!! He was one of the players that made a difference when it mattered.

    Fabricio Coloccini

FABRICIO COLOCCINI will tell Alan Pardew he wants to be part of his new-look team next season at St James’ Park when he returns to Tyneside on July 4.

And his close pal Jonas Gutierrez also wants to stay in Toon, despite waking up to speculation linking him with Atletico Madrid, Seville and Lazio this morning – yet United have received no bids so far.

Argentine defender Colo loves life with Newcastle United and, following the departure of Kevin Nolan, the Chronicle can reveal that the £10m defender is one of Pardew’s candidates to captain the Magpies next term – a job which he carried out to good effect last season, notably when he powered home a dramatic late equaliser against Wigan.

The Chronicle understands that Coloccini has told close friends that he is “99% certain” to stay at United.

But, like any player, he would be obliged to talk to bidding clubs if an offer is accepted and would work in full accordance with Newcastle.

Coloccini has been subject of interest from La Liga side Seville. But with the defender’s wage packet of £90,000 per week making him the top earner at United, the Spaniards may struggle to match his current salary.

Coloccini enjoyed another superb season at the heart of the United defence and, with only three senior centre-backs in the South American, Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson – who will miss the pre-season campaign with an arm injury – Pardew will not want to lose one of most experienced players.

Coloccini said before heading away for his summer break: “Now it is about the future at Newcastle and working towards next season.

“Our first aim was to be safe last season and we achieved it.

“Next season we will look to move up the table again.

“We work well together as a team and I think that showed when it mattered last season.

“Hopefully we can get better results at home, win more matches than last year and climb up the table.

“I am happy at Newcastle, and when I hear the fans singing my name it gives me a special feeling.”

Coloccini still has two years left of his current contract with United and signed from Deportivo la Coruna during the Kevin Keegan era.

Gutierrez – who is represented by his parents rather than an agent – is thought to be keen to stay and fight for his place at Newcastle next term.

The winger’s contract still has another two years to run, but he must contend with new boy Sylvain Marveaux for a slot in midfield next season.

Meanwhile, United sources have dismissed speculation linking them with Celtic midfielder and Scotland international Scott Brown.

The source said: “He has never been discussed.”

And despite national reports that United were interested in AIK Solna’s forward duo Teteh and Mohamed Bangura, such talk has been rubbished by Newcastle.
