By Lewis Price Liverpool FC star Luis Alberto was banned from the road after pleading guilty to drink-driving. The 21-year-old Spanish attacking midfielder was caught during the early hours on Monday March 31 while driving home from a friend's birthday party. Police stopped the footballer, who was driving a white Porsche, on Croxteth Drive as he appeared to be using his mobile phone. Alberto, whose full name is Luis Alberto Alconchel Romero, was also seen swerving the car and, after narrowly missing an island, was asked to step out of his vehicle and undergo a breath test. He was found to be nearly double the legal limit of 35mg, with a recorded 61mg. Alberto, who was accompanied by an interpreter at Liverpool magistrates' court yesterday, admitted being in control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. His lawyer, Michael Hogan, said: "Mr Romero does not go out, this was the first time he has been out properly since he has been in Liverpool.â He added: "Luis has no previous convictions to his name and is unused to strong alcohol. Normally his drinking habits are modest and with being a professional footballer, he will find it difficult without the use of his car.â District Judge Richard Clancy banned the football star for 12 months and ordered him to attend an alcohol awareness course He said: "You will have six months to pass a drink drive course, if this is completed in six months the ban will be reduced to nine months." He was also fined £1,500 and told to pay a a £150 victim surcharge. Alberto, who was signed from Sevilla last summer for £6m, has made a total of 12 appearances this season, but is yet to start a Premier League game. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/liverpool-fc-star-luis-alberto-7032601
Shame a player on our books is going to be inconvenienced like that but serves him right. Hopefully this will set him straight in the future and make him more careful about this.
Idiot. Hopefully he gets more than a slap on the wrist by the club and he accepts his punishment. This could be why we haven't seen him for a while. Nvm, just saw it was recently.
What's with all the high moral indignation? It's not as if you haven't got a clue as to the probable size of his wage packet (well anyway you know its a lot bigger than yours!) If you were 21 and had that kind of money then you'd have a Porche too. Drink driving is wrong and he's been caught, banned and fined. Provided that he learns from the experience then (as nobody was injured) that should be the end of that. The vast majority of drivers have done the same thing at some point so stop being hypocritical.
Bull! I'm offended by that statement. I wouldn't buy a German car! I'd buy a high-end Japanese car so I wouldn't have to take it into the mechanic every 3 weeks! German and Italian cars have the lowest reliability rates these days.
i hope they educate him on NOT to use his phone whilst driving as well as obviously the stupidity of drink driving.
Milk your an idiot. Japanese cars - even high end have always been built to a price point. Given the number of major recalls that all of the Jap firms have had to undertake you can see that their quality appeal is merely PR.
Japanese cars are pretty expensive now. It's not the 80's anymore. First link I find googling most reliable car brands: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2013/10/28/consumer-reports-survey-reliability/3286915/ Incidentally- two from Europe in top 10 are Volvo... and surprisingly Audi... until recently Audi was always near the bottom of the lists.
It must be the quality of the set-up engineers you use over there and perhaps you haven't learnt to drive them properly yet (ducks!!!)
Yeah... on second thoughts... probably good with footballer money to have a Porsche and a Lexus. Drive the Porsche the first week of every month [to pick up women] and the Lexus the other three weeks whilst the Porsche is being fixed.
Having driven a Nissan and a Toyota I would say that my old Beetle beat them hands down for reliability! I presently have a Vauxhall and that has not let me down. My son has a Susuki in Oz and he's well pleased with it. My Dad had a Bluebird and you could see it rust as you watched the tv!!! Now if I had the money I'd go for a Jag or a Bentley or even a Range Rover
Imagine the other critters on the drink awareness course! Although not sure they'd know who Alberto is he's played that little lol.
